Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite

Ik was blij met - Plenty of room in the shower/toilet cubicles and showers were hot
- Staff walking around litter picking (which is a shame they have to do this but it’s nice to see them taking pride in the environment)
- Nice areas to walk the dog

Ik was niet blij met - Major dislike was the launch your own craft set up they’ve got going on. We’ve visited numerous campsites where we’re able to use our own paddle board either included in the price of the stay or for a very small cost. However, it was £16 to use the lake here (which is by far the most expensive charge we’ve seen and our stay was already the most expensive pitch we’ve ever booked!). They have the most ridiculous rule of if you leave the lake you’re not allowed to go back in!! So god forbid if you need a drink or to go to the toilet! Common sense would say you pay for a 2 hour slot and therefore you can use that 2 hours how you please - whether that involves you wanting to come out for a break or not! I would also kind of understand the expensive charge if it covered insurance cost and hiring of a life jacket but nope, you have to provide proof of your own insurance and have your own life jacket before they will allow you near the lake. So you’re paying nearly £20 to be told by 2 very rude young girls that you’re not allowed to have a drink or toilet break and ‘the rules are the rules’.
- Pitches not labelled very well (we had to drive around campsite a few times before we could find our pitch and we saw numerous others doing so too)
- Shop and cafe very expensive (£3 for a bottle of lemonade and £6 for a few fried frozen chips)
- We were pitched next to very loud families who didn’t abide by the quiet rule and continued to play loud music and let their kids run riot until early hours of the morning. Although I appreciate it isn’t an adults only campsite, I think it would be a good idea for the staff to spend time looking at the bookings and pitching the similar kind of bookings together so those couples that are after a few nights of relaxation aren’t ruined by screaming kids!
- Washing up area very run down/dirty and lights don’t come on until very late so if you’re washing up after 8pm you can barely see what you’re doing

Ik was blij met So much activities for children especially having two teenage boys who are very active

Ik was niet blij met Pitches were quite small so I was conscious of how to pitch the tent as we got there later than others.

Also the toilets often ran out of loo roll so could do with being checked and replaced more often

Ik was blij met I love this place it’s only a 7 minute drive from my house but it’s always been our go to campsite for years

Ik was blij met The Aqua Park was a great success with my sons and their friend. Shame about the rude young girls who work there. They didn’t tell us that the wet suit zip went to the back. I got all 3 boys ready for a young girl to then walk past and say in a rude tone there on the wrong way round you need to take them off. Smirk and walk off.

The young lad who served us at the outside food area looked like he didn’t want to be there. He was also very rude in his mannerisms and tone. The cafe area was a mess. Food all over tables.

The people in the shop were lovely and friendly. Was a good little shop too.

The campsite was ok for a quick overnight stay if you’re doing activities but not somewhere we’d want to stay at again. Was full of gangs of girls roaming around causing bother. Our boys were riding around on their bikes and girls kept blocking the path with their arms out trying to stop them and then making fun of their accents even though we’re from Yorkshire and they were from Manchester 🤣 Who knows where the parents were.

We will go back for the activities but not stay over. We’re also going to invest in our own wetsuits as the ones we were given had holes in and the experience of getting them and putting them on was very stressful and not very nice. Was total chaos!!

Ik was blij met Good location and facilities. Superb water attractions.

Ik was niet blij met The pitch itself wasn’t even. Looked like the dog was digging holes before us.
Also the electrical hook up was tripping and we couldn’t get any electricity. We’ve reported the problem but no one turned up to fix it.

Ik was blij met The site has loads to offer. The toilets and showers are cleaned regularly. Theres a onsite shop which is priced fairly. Free WiFi with no buffering, and the staff go above and beyond what's required.
My younger one (aged 4) loved the park, paddle boats and kayaks. And my older kids (age 9 and 15) loved the aqua bounce and jumping in the lake from the kayaks.
Theres also axe throwing, rock climbing and other activities available.

Ik was blij met The spacious pitches with plenty of sun and shade from the trees. Had your own little area. Pitches were really flat and good ground. The toilets and showers were kept clean. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great little shop literally had at least one of everything you could need in the tiniest space! It felt safe for the kids to walk around and there was a lovely little wooded trim trail style park.

Ik was niet blij met There was a bit of litter left from the previous occupants and a dog mess. Wasn’t much, but a bit of a put off from the start. Could hear the hum of traffic in the distance but I guess unless you’re out in the country you’ll get that. It was fun for a night or two.

Ik was niet blij met Very expensive to just park on grass all the water activity’s are open to the public so everything was fully booked for the weekend so basically paying £97 to park on some grass .. reception staff was very young & very rude put us on the pitch 1 which was all unlevel grass with holes and loose stones asked to be moved to somewhere better for 1 year old moved us to middle part opposite which was better for the children but with all the activity’s been fully booked if we knew we would not of booked to stay here . Toilet and shower block was filthy never seen a cleaner once floors were so mucky . Stayed on so many sites even wild camped and this was by far the worst
