A simple stay surrounded by the Northumberland countryside? Oh, go on then… bed down at Tranwell Farm Glamping, a peaceful family-friendly site 10 miles from the Northumberland coast and five minutes’ drive away from the market town of Morpeth. This off-grid site is a good base for tracing the historic Hadrian’s Wall, roaming around local castles or simply strolling along the sandy Northumberland shoreline (there are two beaches 25 minutes' drive away). It's also won awards for its commitment to sustainable tourism, so you know the team here are doing all they can to make your stay a minimal-impact one. You're likely to get pretty chummy with nature here, as the grassy pitches are surrounded by trees too. If you rise early enough, you may catch sight of a deer if you're lucky. Plus, there’s a leisurely nature walk around the farm for all those who aren’t quite done with wildlife spotting for the morning. Afterwards? You might put your feet up and let the countryside views sink in (and think about doing the same with the clear views of the skies at night). There are firepits available to hire on site, a dishwashing area for guests to take care of any pots and pans and an amenities block for a quick freshen up. When you feel like having a meal out somewhere nice, there are plenty of varied restaurants, pubs and cafés in Morpeth within five minutes’ drive of the site. Budding chefs can gather their ingredients from the food shops five minutes’ drive away too. Please note that this site is entirely non-smoking.

  • Deze camping ontvangt alleen gezinnen (directe familieleden) en koppels; reserveringen van andere groepen worden niet aangenomen.
  • Kortingskaarten en cadeaubonnen kunnen niet gebruikt worden bij reserveringen via Pitchup.com.
  • Dit is een rustige plek: muziek is strikt verboden.
  • Als je vuur wilt maken, dien je de brandstof, houtblokken en kolen daarvoor ter plaatse te kopen.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Er is geen open vuur toegestaan in de gehuurde accommodaties.
  • Houd er rekening mee dat de toiletten/douches uniseks zijn.
  • Zwemmen in het meer is niet toegestaan.
  • Bij droog, winderig en/of heet weer zijn vuren, barbecues en vuurkorven niet toegestaan.
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere onsite.

Ik was blij met: We stopped in shepherd's hut and it had everything we needed. Very clean and comfortable, the wood burner was great . The site very tranquil, would definitely stay again. Plus Sarah the owner messaged us to check everything was OK and they left some treats for our arrival, nice touch.

Ik was blij met: Absolutely gorgeous little hut. Clean and very well equipped Lots of little touches, local milk in the fridge, local biscuits and even some mini eggs!! The fire definitely kept us amused and became a bit of a fun competition Check in was beyond easy. Quiet, relaxing, peaceful with plenty of space between us the other accommodation Huge dog walking field right next door. Close to everything. Thoughtful welcome and check messages from Sarah and peter to make sure we had everything we needed. My partner loved the wildlife and was particularly pleased spotting dear. We have already recommended to all our friends An eco friendly site in every sense.

Ik was niet zo blij met: We can’t find anything negative about our stay, loved every minute Only thing is more of a heads up. Our stay was during some very heavy rain and the short walk from the car to the shepherd hut was very boggy. Not a problem in our walking boots/ wellies but definitely not any good in everyday shoes.

Ik was blij met: Excellent dog friendly glamping experience, very spacious pod, everything needed for cooking is provided. Lovely quiet spot with fire pit bbq and picnic bench. Friendly staff with great communication answering any questions. Excellent location for day trips to coast/Northumberland.

Ik was blij met: The site location is beautiful, and the accommodation fabulous. I (and my dog) stayed in Ash Lodge - Sarah had VERY kindly upgraded us because the weather was looking very cold (it was!). The lodge was very well-appointed, with everything you could need for your stay - including encouragement for a digital detox while off-grid, which I gladly took! The highlight was the wood-burning stove - there is nothing quite like a roaring fire while it's cold, dark and raining outside. Even an amateur like me managed to get - and keep! - it going, following the clear instructions. I fully self-catered, so didn't make use of the local pubs, but passed a few while driving to/from the site - and the buzzy town of Morpeth is very close. I'd recommend to anyone wanting a break from the world - time did slow down for me! - and would love to return.

Ik was blij met: Host was very friendly and accommodating, the site was absolutely beautiful it felt private and quiet. The shepherd's hut was clean and well decorated, I appreciated that all the products used and provided in the hut were eco friendly. Will definitely come again.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

The hiking trails around these parts really do have a lot going for them… ramblers might come back raving about the historic walking route along Hadrian’s Wall (25 minutes’ drive) or the grouse, goats and roe deer that they spotted around Northumberland National Park (35 minutes) Zoos have a greater variety of creatures, whether it’s the farm animals (and tractor rides and playgrounds…) at the Whitehouse Farm Centre (five minutes), the kangaroos and monkeys at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens (10 minutes) or the snow leopards and lemurs at Northumberland Country Zoo (20 minutes). Golfers should be able to get into the swing of things at the golf course five minutes’ drive away or the N1 Golf Centre (five minutes) miniature golf and driving range. If rummaging through rockpools is more your cup of tea, next up will be Newbiggin-by-the-Sea beach (25 minutes). Sandy Blyth Beach (25 minutes) is also on hand. As for historic places that bring to life old Northumberland, check out the market town of Morpeth (five minutes’ drive), Newcastle upon Tyne (25 minutes) and Alnwick Castle (half an hour). The latter’s re-enactments and archery activities will really get you feeling like you’ve gone back some centuries.
