Heading to Hull, hitting the beach in Hornsea or taking on the Trans Pennine Trail? Whatever it is that brings you to this part of the country, Tower Hill Caravan and Camping makes an excellent base for an East Yorkshire break. This well-kept and peaceful rural site is in the hamlet of Great Hatfield, about three miles from the coast and the seaside town of Hornsea. It’s also got the Trans Pennine Trail passing very close by, so makes a handy place to bed down for a night or two at the start of your walk or bike ride. Tower Hill is a small site but it’s big enough to house a good collection of useful facilities, including a launderette, a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities. It’s also got a wifi service that comes in particularly handy for planning days out or checking your walking/cycle routes. You’ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue to cook your meals here as long as it’s kept off the ground (no campfires though, please, for safety reasons). If you’d like someone else to do the cooking you may like to walk along the trail to the nearest pub, about 45 minutes away, or into Hornsea, an hour away, for pubs, cafés or a fish and chip supper on the beach. Hornsea’s also your nearest place for shops, and has various attractions including Bugtopia Zoo and boating on Hornsea Mere. Hull is about 25 minutes’ drive away for The Deep aquarium and the Streetlife Museum.

  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan. Denk aan de pitbullterriër en tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro.
  • Het gebruik van de douche kost £ 1,00 (€ 1,15).
  • Er mogen geen reserveringen worden gemaakt voor meer dan 14 aaneengesloten nachten.
  • Kortingskaarten en cadeaubonnen kunnen niet gebruikt worden bij reserveringen via Pitchup.com.
  • Minstens één lid van het gezelschap dient 18 of ouder te zijn.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Er is geen receptie ter plaatse: neem bij aankomst contact op met het nummer dat in de reserveringsbevestiging vermeld staat.
  • Bij droog, winderig en/of heet weer zijn vuren, barbecues en vuurkorven niet toegestaan.

Ik was blij met: Nice quiet site really good facilities with easy access friendly people and nice area with shops nearby. The pitches are nice and level with plenty of places to hook up electric, we only spoke to staff over the phone but she was very polite and helpful would recommend this site to anyone!

Ik was niet zo blij met: We didn’t have any problems but you may struggle to get into the toilet/shower block if you have a disability as there’s quite a high step, the site also took a little while to find as google maps took us to the wrong place if you have the same problem find the big white water tower and go in the lay-by infront of it and it’s signposted.

Ik was blij met: Nice and quiet, good washroom facilities and electric point. Showers were nice and hot. Would definitely return.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Directions to the site aren’t great and if you blink you would miss the entrance. Signage to point to campsite could be better, maybe at the side of the road ? No Wifi.

Ik was blij met: Spacious pitch

Ik was niet zo blij met: Showers - additional payment required for showers; floors had dirty mats to stand on; only 2 showers for the site. Toilets - needed to take your own toilet tissue; no sanitary disposal unit in toilets; no appropriate sinks to get washed.

Ik was blij met: Quiet and clean, not too busy on tent pitches.

Ik was niet zo blij met: It's only park by pitch for the hard standing pitches. For tents there is no vehicle access to the field, you have to park in carpark or around the perimeter. Very few electric points so cables were running across access points.

Ik was blij met: The price and the views

Ik was niet zo blij met: Sadly our experience was nothing like the other reviews. It was not peaceful with loud, sweary group who kept other campers across the site awake until 1am on two consecutive nights. Second night was worse as they added very loud music to the mix, which meant they shouted even louder to each other. Dogs allowed to roam off leash. While they were inconsiderate, it could have been sorted if the site manager/ owner had actually been around at any time. Never saw them even to restock toilet rolls in the 4 toilets which ran out Saturday morning and were not replaced by Sunday morning. For the first time in all our years of camping we left a night early forfeiting our pitch fee as we couldn't face another night there.

Ik was blij met: The tranquility within a lovely picturesque countryside setting, but within close proximity to the coast and ameneties required. Very clean site including shower, toilet and laundry, lovely touch with floral displays on site, level pitches with plenty of space. Friendly and welcoming conversation with site owners on arrival

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Hornsea is likely to be your first port of call – you can drive there in about five minutes, walk in 45 or cycle in 20. There’s a lovely sandy beach up here, with plenty of places to pick up fish and chips or ice creams, and several other attractions including Bugtopia Zoo, Honeysuckle Farm and boating on Hornsea Mere. The town is also home to a leisure centre with a swimming pool, and an outlet shopping village. For a wilder stretch of coast, head over to Mappleton beach (five minutes’ drive), or pack your binoculars and make your way to Flamborough Head (45 minutes) to look out for seabirds. To see marine life instead, head into Hull (25 minutes) for a day at The Deep aquarium (the free Streetlife Museum, home to all sorts of old vehicles, is well worth a visit too while you’re there…) Other places to visit in the area include Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (10 minutes) and the lovely town of Beverley (25 minutes), which is full of independent shops.
