What a lovely little place… Co Durham's Leekworth Caravan Park is a 14-acre secluded farm site with spectacular countryside views, surrounded by the north Pennines and on the outskirts of the historic market village of Middleton-in-Teesdale. It's a riverside park, set on the banks of the River Tees with fishing for guests: how fab. If you're not up for fishing, this is walking land too, with miles of walking paths accessible nearby and the famed Teesdale Way cutting through the farm to join the Pennine Way. The site's modern shower and toilet block has underfloor heating throughout; there's also a shower and toilet accessible to disabled guests, along with a covered washing-up area and chemical disposal. Leekworth has a food shop on site; a well-stocked grocery shop as well as country shops and cafés are in Middleton village 10 minutes' walk away and a big supermarket is in Barnard Castle within 10 miles.

Ik was blij met: Excellent campsite with great views! We loved our spot by the river. The facilities were great and very clean the entire stay and the staff were lovely. I would highly recommend to both caravan/motorhome and tent owners. I would definitely stay again!

Ik was blij met: Staff were brilliant and friendly. Site was peaceful with some beautiful scenery. The firepit was lovely. The facilities were really new and looked after. The local takeaway delivered to the site and was delicious. The town is a short walk. We went to a nice pub, and the bookshop. Spent some time in Barnard Castle which is 20mins away. Had some gelato and ate at the three horseshoes - highly recommended

Ik was blij met: A lovely area! A lot to explore, free fishing, the toilets are clean as is the site. Short walk to a small village, and a short drive to multiple areas of interest and/or walks. The camping field was quite quiet when we were there which was nice, as it was my dogs first camping trip, and it went great. We were camped right on the riverside which was nice too. Plenty of gates to access back into the campsite from the path along the river.

Ik was niet zo blij met: We would have ideally liked the onsite shop to have been open a little more often.

Ik was blij met: This is our second year returning to Leekworth. The site is clean, well maintained and quiet. Those staying are respectful to others camping. If your looking for a party site you need to look else where. The toilets are clean and shower block is also maintained to a high standard. There is a well stocked shop on site and the owner offers fire pits and logs each evening. The site is a short walk to the village along the river, and there are a choice of other walks close by. You are able to fish on the river whilst staying on sit too. Overall a wonderful stay again, we will be back next year

Ik was blij met: Nice warm welcome and explanation of facilities. Good directions to pitch . Flat grass pitch near the river. Facilities very clean . A mile or so stroll into Middleton with shops,pubs and chip shop to name a few. Of course the weather helps, very 🌞

Ik was blij met: Close to the river. The site was scenic. Close to the village to walk for food/pubs. Facilities were good.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Showers do not stay on for long enough for 50p. Fire pit comes with wood but no fire lighters so have to purchase them on top.

Ik was blij met: Brilliant site. Has everything you need good size pitches great showers and washing facilities so ok 50p for a shower but nothing to grumble about and also has great scenery. Owners. Robin Hires out log burner s which are great on the colder nights to sit round with a couple of beers. Haven't got a bad thing to say had a canny break with the daughter and wife. Only thing wish it hadn't rained as much but thats the british weather. Village just a short walk along the river with plenty of shops and a great chippy and a couple of pubs so all in all great location for a lovely break away. 👍

As you enter Middleton-in-Teesdale, at the bottom of the hill take the second left turn after the telephone box into Leekworth Gardens. Turn right shortly after and continue down a farm track. When you reach the farm, turn to the left onto the site.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Teesdale, its surrounds and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty have activities and attractions galore whatever flavour of holiday you fancy, as well as plenty of places to sup, sip and shop. Several waterfalls are easily reached from the site, including Low Force over the Whin Sill rock, and England's highest uninterrupted drop of water High Force, under six miles away (access it from High Force Hotel for a fee or walk on the opposite side of the river from Low Force to see it for free). There's also a walk up the riverside footpath from the Bowless picnic area to Gibson's cave, past four small falls up to Summerhill Force. If you want to dive into some Co Durham history, the town of Barnard Castle, 10 miles away, has the acclaimed and handsome Bowes Museum with its collections of art, ceramics, textiles and more, and Raby Castle just outside the village of Staindrop has another art collection as well as eighteenth century gardens surrounding its big park.
