Want to be in deepest countryside but close enough to a town for a spot of shopping or a night in the pub? Check out the offerings at Whitehouse Farm, set in six acres of glorious rural Suffolk, well away from roads and traffic noise and yet only 20 minutes’ drive from the pubs and indie shops of Bury St Edmunds. This is also a super spot for kids, as there is a playground with climbing equipment on site and some fab family walks directly from the farm – you can bring the pooches too but they need to be kept on leads please. The pitches are located in the meadow, just beyond where the shepherd huts sit in the old orchard among damson, apple, pear and greengage trees. Shared facilities include loos, showers, a water tap, a washing-up area and a laundry room. Barbecues are available if you feel inspired to cook, and there's a communal firepit too for sociable evenings. You can pick up supplies in Stowmarket (15 minutes’ drive) – and if you don't fancy cooking, well… those Bury St Edmunds pubs await. For chilly evenings, a sauna is also available (chat to site staff for more details).

  • Er is geen receptie ter plaatse: neem bij aankomst contact op met het nummer dat in de reserveringsbevestiging vermeld staat.

Woodpecker trekkershut

Ik was blij met: Loved it! Great place to stay. We stayed in a very cute gypsy caravan. The Owner was very nice. Wish I made use of the sauna. Would definitely recommend. We had some great long walks in the beautiful countryside. We can’t wait to go back!

Woodpecker trekkershut

Ik was blij met: Absolutely beautiful site. Loved it from the moment I drove down an avenue of trees to walking along the path through the Orchard seeing the Shepard huts, woodland camping spaces and big grass camping field surrounded by trees blackberries and the sound of birdsong. The large pond and Sauna was amazing hors of fun for all the family. Went for my daughters 40th Birthday with her husband and two young children. Fantastic ! Very friendly and helpful owner Rob, brilliant.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nettles! 😅 Would like a hand rail for steps up to Shepards hut.

Ik was blij met: We love the swimming lake and the relaxed feel of the site. The loo's and showers are very clean and well kept. The owner is really helpful and accommodating and I am sure that it is his welcoming demeanour that rubs off on everyone, making it altogether a really friendly place.

Ik was blij met: Truly fantastic spot with lovely views and surrounding countryside. Owners are welcoming and accommodating. The kids loved the natural swimming pond. Facilities are clean and well kept. Honestly, we couldn’t find fault with it. Will be returning again!

Ik was blij met: We had a fabulous week at Whitehouse Farm. The atmosphere that has been created on the site was very friendly and with no cars allowed on site we felt safe allowing our children to walk around the fitness trail and to the two play areas with their new found friends. Rob is a great host who takes the time to greet all the guests and provide knowledge on the local area such as places to go and places to eat. Whilst the campsite was full on the weekends it never felt overly busy and the facilities were clean and well stocked with the essentials. Swimming (and using the row boat) in the wildlife pond were an unexpected bonus and our children are keen to return next summer.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

The pretty town of Bury St Edmunds (20 minutes’ drive) holds a local market every Wednesday and Saturday, where you can pick up foodie bits and pieces. It also has indie shopping, a spectacular cathedral, brewery tours and popular restaurants for a respite from all the sightseeing. Alton Water (40 minutes) is a top spot for canoeing and sailing, and any rainy days are covered by the swimming pool in the leisure centre at Stowmarket (15 minutes). A day trip to the Norfolk Broads (45 minutes) to hire a day-cruiser boat is also a firm family favourite, or you might like to have a go at punting along The Backs in Cambridge (an hour) – if that’s too much like hard work, take a look at the city’s historic colleges instead. When the kids need a runaround, hire bikes for off-roading at Thetford Forest Park (half an hour) or let them try out the treetop rope courses at Go Ape Thetford (45 minutes). If only a beach day will do, Aldeburgh (an hour) has a sand and shingle stretch that's safe for swimming, and a popular fish and chip shop for after you’ve had a dip.
