Its rural location on the edge of a Suffolk conservation area ensures visitors to Polstead Country Park have plenty to do during their stay. The pretty village of Polstead is five minutes’ drive away, and walkers have access to a network of footpaths from there, taking in ancient woodland scattered with bluebells in spring, while overnighting cyclists can pick on the South Suffolk Cycle Route with a 10-minute ride from the park. If you've brought the car, your options widen even further – animal parks, stately homes and beaches are all within half an hour’s drive. Landscaped with flowers, neat hedges and shady mature trees, the pitches at this adults-only site are generously sized and immaculately maintained. Spotless modern facilities include shower facilities with underfloor heating and a dedicated accessible bathroom, while washing-up sinks and a laundry area make it easy to keep everyone and everything looking shipshape. The friendly staff at reception can let you have all sorts of information on the local area and places to visit, and there’s also a small site shop stocked with essentials. If you fancy a break from cooking, there’s a foodie pub within five minutes’ walk and other options in Polstead village.

Ik was blij met Clean toilets, quiet and peaceful site, friendly staff.

Clean, well maintained, and private, but a lot of traffic noise.

Ik was blij met Excellent facilities, incredibly clean and clearly very well managed. Our pitch had plenty of space and the way the campsite is divided up means each zone is quite private.

Ik was niet blij met I wasn’t expecting the noise from the nearby road to be so loud. It might have been because of our positioning but it was, in my opinion, incredibly loud (and I’m a Londoner so no stranger to loud roads!). The campsite was also a little tricky to navigate, but not too bad.

Ik was blij met Another great stay at Polstead. Immaculately clean and tidy throughout. Always a warm welcome on arrival. The peacefulness is the standout feature as is the privacy of the plots surrounded by hedges. Thank you and we will be back again soon

Ik was blij met Lots of hedgerows & bushes for privacy, I had a corner pitch which was perfectly shaded for my dogs, very friendly manager, good quality toilet & laundry area, quite a busy road a little way behind & heard a few load motorbikes at times but other than that it was very peacefully until my dogs kicked off !! Training in progress. Will definitely visit again.

Ik was niet blij met Could do with some dog tethering points at the toilets, luckily there’s a very heavy pot plant with handles. WiFi doesn’t reach all the site I had none,

Ik was blij met Great, quite peaceful site, sunny or shady pitches available, flexible arrival & departure times, great wardens, who keep site pristine and clean, pub at end of road 5 minutes walk serving lovely food all day. Adults only an advantage as well.

Ik was niet blij met Showers toilets very clean, but could do with a spruce up, bit of a refurbishment, push button showers don't stay on long.

Ik was blij met Was very clean and well laid out. The staff were very helpful & friendly and kept the site running well. Nice & quiet at night.

Ik was niet blij met Just a small problem with the grass having too much rubble/stones so standard camping pegs won't go in. Every single peg bent but we was very lucky to go during beautiful weather so the awning didn't move. This wouldn't stop me from returning, I'd just book the grass only pitch.

Pretty Suffolk villages to explore include Kersey (five minutes’ drive) with its half-timbered houses and thatched cottages, while Lavenham (20 minutes) has a stunning guildhall and fine 14th-century church. For a bit of a date night, Ipswich (25 minutes) has lots of bars and restaurants along its lively waterfront, as well as a theatre and cinema. There are pretty country yomps along the River Stour to Flatford Mill (25 minutes) and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) in Constable Country. You can see another artist’s house on the walking trail from National Trust-owned Melford Hall (20 minutes) to Sudbury (15 minutes), which takes in three old water mills and Thomas Gainsborough’s house en route. Looking for animal encounters on your rural break? Feed lambs (in season), groom horses and cuddle up to friendly donkeys at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, or get up close to the reptiles, creepy crawlies and butterflies at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (both half an hour). Or how about touring a couple of local vineyards? Giffords Hall (half an hour) and Burnt House (45 minutes) are both open for tours and tastings – it’s best to book in advance.
