Pitching up by a pub – always a clever move. Be very sensible indeed with a Suffolk stay at the Wheatacre White Lion, where a swish bar, full menu and scenic setting are all for the taking. Pub first? The White Lion is a country pub, bar and restaurant acclaimed for its food, all prepared fresh by its experienced chefs. There’s an excellent selection of wines and ales to pick from too, to have in the pub, alongside dinner in the spacious dining room, or over an idle hour or two in the handsome beer garden. The team prides itself on providing a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to all guests, whether you’re there for a quick drink, a family meal or a couples’ dinner. And… you’ll need somewhere to totter back to after all that. The campsite part of the White Lion has free wifi, chemical disposal and charging facilities, and welcomes families and motorbikers as well as groups. Barbecues are allowed. And the setting? The White Lion is in green countryside a couple of miles from the River Waveney, 10 minutes’ drive from the teeny town of Beccles. It’s well placed for adventuring all around Suffolk and into Norfolk: the Broads are just to the north, the seaside at Lowestoft is half an hour’s drive away, and Norwich is within 45 minutes.

Rustige, goed onderhouden camping met ruime, vlakke staanplaatsen achter een populaire pub. Gasten prijzen het vriendelijke personeel en het uitstekende eten. Ondanks mindere toiletfaciliteiten 's nachts en af en toe problemen met vuilnisbakken of stroom, is de ervaring overwegend positief en veel gasten komen terug. Ik was blij met Excellent site, field is easily accessible, well kept and beautifully quiet.
Pub is really lovely, great selection of drinks, outside space for a sunny afternoon, food in the restaurant was good at a fair price, all the staff were lovely.

Ik was niet blij met Not a dislike as we knew there were no facilities but on site loos would be fantastic.

Ik was blij met Lovely convenient location, easy to find and get our rented motorhome onto our pitch. Hassle-free arrival and hook up and not disturbed by our near neighbours at any point.

Although we didn’t eat at the White Lion we did enjoy a welcome to Wheatacre drink in the bar and were able to peruse the very lovely looking menu! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, despite it being a very busy evening.

Overall, great facilities - pity there was no shower block but we knew this in advance so not a problem - and a great location. Will definitely recommend staying here to friends ❤️

Ik was niet blij met Other than the teeming rain, not a lot. Our only suggestion is that offering breakfast to those camping would go down really well. We followed the recommendation to eat at the nearby farm shop and cafe (which was awesome) but would have eaten at the pub if this had been an option.

Ik was blij met Pub was good and they managed to fit us in for a late Sunday lunch. Pitches were wide and flat. We were the only ones staying, it was very quiet.

Ik was blij met Peaceful even though close to pub and customers also parked cars in field. Well spaced pitches. Ok for a night or two to explore area. Good in pub very good,

Ik was niet blij met When we first pulled in, we needed to fill up with water. Where the water tap is, there was very unsightly piles of wood, and toot lying around. Looked awful! Saving grace you can’t see it once you are on your pitch. Bins were already overflowing so very difficult to dispose of our waste.

Ik was blij met The excellent pub on the site is in excellent condition and sells a wide range of food and drink. The campsite is right behind the pub and within a 2 mile walk to the Waverney Marian.

Ik was niet blij met Toilet and shower facilities are very poor.

To the coast? It’s half an hour’s drive from the pub to Lowestoft, Britain’s most easterly town and home to a lengthy beach, a lengthy pier and beach huts that you will want to possess right this instant thank you very much. At Southwold (half an hour along the coast from Lowestoft, or reach it straight from the site in the same distance), there’s another pier and sandy beach, a nine-hole golf course and more colourful beach huts, as well as tours and tastings at Adnams Brewery – gin included. Or stay inland to access the Broads National Park and the River Waveney waterways from local town Beccles, such as the coastal lagoon of Oulton Broad: have an afternoon here to spy otters and wading birds around RSPB Minsmere, have a guided tour or take one of the nature trails. The reserve also runs regular family days and events at its Wild Zone and Wild Wood Adventure area. (If that’s whetted the kids’ appetites for Suffolk theme parks, Pleasurewood is 10 minutes’ drive outside Lowestoft, or 25 minutes from the site.) Norwich is the most convenient starting point if you’re day tripping by public transport: Great Yarmouth is 45 minutes away by train, Ipswich just under an hour and a half, and London just under two hours.
