Set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, known the world over for its links with the mythical Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood Pines is spread across 40 acres of gorgeous ancient woodland. First and foremost, it’s an excellent base for those who have big plans to explore the forest and its numerous hiking and cycling routes; there are paths directly from the pitches that guests can get straight out onto. Second? It’s within walking distance of many of the forest’s main activities, including adventure playgrounds, Go Ape Sherwood, bike hire, shady picnic spots and a schedule of open-air concerts held throughout the year. Plenty of useful amenities are available at Sherwood Pines too, including heated lockers for backpackers, a secure bike station for cyclists, a motorhome service point and a dog wash for four-legged guests. In summer, family activities take place on site. Mobile pizza and fish and chips vans visit most weekends. There is also a fresh coffee machine and a small shop in reception, handy if you need a quick caffeine boost or a snack before a big day out on the trails.

Ik was blij met We come several times a year, it's one of our favourite places, even the dog loves it. It's very peaceful. My husband and our older boys 16yrs love to bring their mountain bikes and do the trails. A short walk through the woods to the visitors centre for lots of activities. Toilet facilities are always clean good showers, campsite is very clean and tidy. We've not had a bad stay yet. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Ik was niet blij met Make sure you have a long electric cable as 1 post does 4 pitches and it has to reach very far. We had to double ours up, the cable ran across the entrance to the wood which I worried if someone was to trip over it. No phone reception/wifi at all where we was pitched up.

Ik was blij met Was able to get a pitch so close to the park I could watch my 5 year old play from my camper van

Would definitely return more regularly if closer to home.

Ik was niet blij met Too regimented, have to wait to be shown a pitch, grass coarse and burnt. Smell from farm horrible.

Ik was blij met Nice size campsite, central play area makes it easy to keep an eye on little ones. Facilities were very clean and tidy, plenty of toilets and showers and some family rooms too. Right next to the forest and a very short walk to Go Ape, cafe, big play area etc. Lots of shade for the hot summer months. Staff very friendly.

Ik was niet blij met The only downside was the prize of the pizza van, nice to have the option there but quite expensive for what you get.

This site is Definately exceptional place to stay.

Ik was blij met I will Definately be back. This place was amazing. Had every facility you could need. The facilities were spotless and smelt lovely. The site was quite and situated in among the lovely woods with numerous walks in the woods for my dog. I loved it. Surrounded by wildlife, rabbits feeding in the morning, squirrels. birds.

Ik was niet blij met My only dislike was as an early riser I was packed up and ready to leave after a long dog walk. But could not leave until 7.30 until the barrier started to operate. As you had to put a code in to gain access I would have like this exit barrier to be able to leave at anytime by putting in a code.

Want to explore the forest on two wheels? You won’t need to fret about securing a bicycle rack to your precious car, as Sherwood Pines Cycles (10 minutes’ walk) is right within striking distance. Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes) is also within walking distance, making it easy to go from lounging on the pitch to gliding down a zipwire and gazing through the leaf canopies. If you’d rather spend your time batting golf balls with gusto, try the Sherwood Forest Golf Club (10 minutes) instead. For one of the area’s most legendary sights, head to The Major Oak (10 minutes’ drive), an ancient tree rumoured to be connected to the legendary Robin Hood. If you still have plenty of energy to expend on some challenging activities, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre (25 minutes) runs activities such as assault courses and paintballing. Finally, should you feel like pausing the activities to take in some important history, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum (20 minutes) is not too far away either.
