For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

  • Honden moeten getatoeëerd of gechipt zijn.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan. Denk aan de pitbullterriër en tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Houd er rekening mee dat de toiletten/douches uniseks zijn.

Ik was blij met: Beautiful site, open space, big pitches. I loved the water point at each pitch and the power hook up so close

Ik was niet zo blij met: The many notices telling us what not to do, the state of the ablutions. Showers weren't cleaned for about 3 days, started running out of toilet paper, no hot water for washing up

Ik was blij met: Beautiful countryside all around. Well maintained field. Plenty of space when we were there. Facilities clean. Near to some lovely pubs with good food. Variety of farm animals including two very cute ostriches!

Ik was niet zo blij met: Being woken very early by an enthusiastic cockerel - but then we were on a farm!

Ik was blij met: Site is well laid out with plenty of space between pitches. Grass is well maintained and Lovely views. 10-15 minute drive to pubs. Far enough from the main roads to be quiet. Lots of animals on site.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Toilets were dirty and shower was cold. Only 1 shower for the full site with lots of campers.

Would be a 5 star if facilities are improved

Ik was blij met: Nice position. Easy to get to and many walks nearby. Pitch sizes good. Electric hookup and drinking water behind each pitch.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Facilities are quite subpar. Only one shower for the whole site and 3 toilets. Small campsite but still feel as though there could be more, especially if it was busier. Cleanliness wasn’t great either in the facilities and was missing toilet paper a few times. No hot water for washing dishes either.

Routebeschrijving

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
