Probably won’t stay again

Hi Andy, I'm pleased that you wrote 'probably' in your review. Perhaps we can entice you to return. I'm guessing that the 'nothing locally to walk to' refers to a village pub for the evening as we have a shop onsite and are of course close to Castle Howard. There isn't a pub in Coneysthorpe but we are only 1 mile from the Courtyard Cafe and shops at Castle Howard for daytime walks and if you wanted a lunchtime pub, Welburn is around 3 miles away. Of course it is open in the evenings too but as a dark skies area we would recommend a taxi back to Lakeside at night when you can sit and watch the stars. |

Lovely place.

Hello and thanks for your feedback. Our location is definitely a highlight for many visitors and it's always good to read it is appreciated by our guests. Our little shop, added just, over a year ago has proved popular as it stocks a few staples, a few luxuries and a few essential items such as toiletries which may have been forgotten; it is a 'convenience' store but there are supermarkets if needed just 5 miles away in Malton. |

Clean & tidy site just not for us

Hello Rebecca, we understand that our rural site is not to everyone's taste; it all depends on what a guest is looking for but we a located next to a lake and are just a few minutes drive from Castle Howard. We are great as a quiet and peacful base to return to after exploring the beautiful Howardian Hills or further afield. Being so close to the city of York, the North York Moors, small market towns with historic castles, Dalby Forest, Flamingo Land, and only 28 miles from the coast we think our site is ideally placed to have something for everyone and the 2-4-1 offer for entry in to the grounds of Castle Howard is an added bonus. |

Hello Nigel, we're pleased you enjoyed our idyllic setting. You are right, many years ago the Great Lake was managed and used for fishing competitions so the varietey of species was much wider however today, as our receptionists inform all prospective fisherman, this is no longer the case. Nature conservation is something the Castle Howard Estate cares dearly about and consequently over time the focus of provision (and expenditure) needs to be carefully considered. Our website does state that fishing is an ancillary offering now. |

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you had a great stay and enjoyed our location. You are correct that we do not have wifi, which we do state on our website and do not show as a facility on Pitch Up. Some guests enjoy the disconnect from technology but we understand it isn't a positive for everyone. Castle Howard courtyard does have free wi-fi and is only just over a mile away for guests who do want to check in. We're pleased that you enjoyed the quiet and liked our facilities and hope you will return.
