Disabled toilets were locked and not with a radar key lock which is what I use, I could have gone to get a key but with bowel disease its not always the best to have to go get a key and unlock before accessing the toilet.
There was no signal for internet, or the TV. I mean a complete dead spot so things were pretty boring in the evening.
The pitches (grass area) aren't really suitable for winter because its a mud bath. Everything was covered in mud meaning our van also got filthy and was hard to keep clean, the electric tripped multiple times whilst cooking breakfast and we were only using one electric pan and the microwave. The van next to us went to the box to put their electric back in 4 times in the space of 7 minutes.We were sent away at 9am from the washing up area because they hadn't turned the hot water on yet (surely this should be put on earlier) and it needed time to warm up, meaning we were delayed leaving for our day out.
Hello Susan, thank you for taking the time to write your review of Lakeside. We're pleased to see that you found your hardstanding pitch spacious.
Your comments on the facilities are naturally a little disappointing for us especially as some could have been easily resolved. Keys for the disabled toilet and shower room are available from reception; there are three different RADAR keys so it is better for us to issue our own keys; this also helps us to know that the disabled facility is being used by people who really need it. When a guest requests one it is signed out to them for the duration of their stay.
The fact that Wifi is not available is stated in our frequently asked questions which can be read before booking. It is also mentioned in many of the reviews by previous guests, some who really enjoy the opportunity of having a technology free holiday for a truly relaxing break giving famiiies with children valuable time together whilst being 'offgrid'.
The time of year you chose to come did not help with cleanliness; after the wettest start to a year in a long time the ground was waterlogged and whilst we do our best to keep the facilities tidy with a daily deep clean, mud still gets taken in underfoot, just as it would into guests caravans and motorhomes if extreme care isn't taken.
Regarding the electric, problems with the system are usually caused by overloading. I am sure you can appreciate that certain appliances need more power than others and if fridges, electric heating, cookers and microwaves are all trying to be used on a 10 amp unit, tripping may occur. The boxes are checked regularly by the maintenance team.
Our receptionists go to draw the hot water through as soon as they arrive, not because the hot water is switched off, it is on constantly, but after a cold night when it has been sitting in long pipes it takes time to come through to the sinks and showers. If the facilities haven't already been used it may still be cold. They would never turn people away unless there was an issue with the boiler but perhaps they didn't explain themselves very well so we apologise if there was a misunderstanding over this.
