Hello Amanda, it's great to read that you felt safe at Lakeside on your first solo trip.
We love the drive along the stray which is stunning isn't it? It has been described as the 'greatest road in Yorkshire' and you can just imagine the carriages pulled by wonderfully groomed horses passing the obilisk, (built in 1714) on the way to a grand event at Castle Howard itself. It is not surprising that the drive and house feature in so many films and period dramas.

Thanks Kirstie. It is upsetting to know that some of our guests had no regard for the rules of the site. New signs have now been displayed about keeping dogs on a lead and our team will patrol when possible to ensure they are adhered to.
Every year the crows feature in guest reviews but with so many large and beautiful trees in our rural setting this is to be expected. I'm sure you can appreciate that in bygone days, pre electricity, the dawn chorus was the alarm clock for everyone to get up and make the most of the daylight hours but because of technology our sleep patterns have changed whilst the natural world still follows the eternal patterns of the sun and the seasons. Some guests really enjoy the 'dawn chorus experience' whilst others suggest ear plugs; a sensible suggestion for light sleepers when camping.
