Set up on the tree-shaded grass pitches at Minicamping Felis Hoeve, an adults-only campsite on the outskirts of sleepy Acquoy in rural Gelderland. Here you have all the space and all the peace you need to destress and put your feet up in woodland surroundings.
On lazy days when you don’t want to move far from your tent, plunder the free library for your favourite novel, enjoy an alfresco feast on the picnic tables, or take any accompanying dogs for a gentle stroll along the meandering River Linge.
More active guests may like to cycle sections of the Linge Cycle Route or just have a two-wheel potter locally; either way, there’s a secure shed for bike storage. Also on site is a charging point for electric cars.
Catering-wise, breakfast is all organised for you, thanks to the daily fresh bread delivery service (except Sunday), and for the rest of the day, you have a choice of Italian, Greek, Japanese and burger delivery services right to your pitch. Stock up on foodie bits from supermarkets in Leerdam (five minutes’ drive, try the local Leerdammer cheese), and if you’re up for a night out, the city has a whole load of bars and restaurants too.
Ending on a practical note, pristine modern facilities have hot and cold running water, washing-up sinks with all utensils provided, and a laundry room so you can keep on top of chores.

Site owners Look and Miranda have compiled a free comprehensive guide (available on arrival) to local different cycling and walking routes, which take in the long-distance Linge Cycle Route through the Betuwe fruit-production region, circular trails leading through orchards from Asperen Fort (five minutes’ cycle) or flat rides along the river dike to Lekdijk (about two hours).
If you fancy an open-air dip, there are natural swimming lakes in Asperen (five minutes’ drive) and Herwijnen (10 minutes); when the weather’s not up to scratch, head for the indoor swimming pool in Leerdam (five minutes). Needing other inspiration for wet-weather days? Try a visit to the aquariums ful of tropical fish at Aqua Zoo Leerdam or a tour of the interactive Glassworks Leerdam.
Lovely local towns to reconnoitre include canal-side Gorinchem (20 minutes), with its largely intact medieval fortress and river cruises from the Buiten de Waterpoort. Historic Culemborg (also 20 minutes) is another fortified settlement with free self-guided walks through its 14th-century centre lined with ornate gabled houses.
