Peace, calm and spectacular views are what you’ll get with a stay at Le Mas de Riri, a hillside campsite in the department of Hérault. Overlooking Lake Salagou and surrounded by forested hills rising steeply out of the water, this place has a secret… for Le Mas de Riri also looks over the village of Celles, abandoned when the reservoir was created in the 1960s. As well as that unusual backdrop, the campsite has masses of amenities to ensure family camping holidays go smoothly: included here are a play area, spotless shower blocks with baby rooms, washing-up sinks and facilities for the mobility impaired. If you’re fretting about food, there’s no need, as fresh bread and pastries are delivered every morning (you can order in advance), and barbecues are allowed – buy your supplies from the small shop in the hamlet of Le Bosc (10 minutes’ drive) or head for Clermont-l’Hérault (20 minutes) for more serious stocking up. However, if you succumb to the laidback vibe of the place and take cooking off the agenda, simply head to the terraced restaurant for good local dishes and more of those fabulous views to the lake and Celles. Dogs are welcome on site; you can exercise them with a stroll down to Celles and let them cool off in the water along the lake’s shoreline.

Mi è piaciuto Great views of the lake and an area where you can get in and swim.
Good walks around the lake in both directions, or you can do as I did and do the full loop - be warned, this is a long walk c. 15 miles and, ironically, no access to drinking water or any facilities so make sure you're prepared.

Non mi è piaciuto I want to caveat my dislikes by saying the site didn't suit me but may well be perfect for others. This is more to make others aware to make an informed choice.
The pitches are dirt pitches rather than grass, hard to get pegs into.
There were a lot of ants. I learnt very quickly not to drop any food (even crumbs) near my van.
It's quite a busy site (clearly popular).

Also, be aware, when you book through Pitch-Up you then have to send an email, otherwise your booking isn't confirmed.

Non mi è piaciuto Ik stond n beetje op n verkeerde plek. De caravan ving heel veel wind. Volgende x op n andere plek maar komen zeker terug

Mi è piaciuto Lovely location with view of the lake. Fresh bread on a morning (van turns up beeping horn so you know it's arrived)
Lovely restaurant over looking the lake and nice meal too.
Would recommend taking boat,kayak or paddle board also fishing rods but great for a swin too.
Rough terrain as it's on a hill side.
Facilities clean, staff friendly.
Free WiFi in bar area.

Non mi è piaciuto Nothing, other than wife left her purse in bar area and someone pinched it.

Mi è piaciuto The view, the service, the refreshing lake, the French culture and offcourse the restaurant.

Non mi è piaciuto The first place we had (58) was very small but could move to the spot next to it.
And the freezer (for the cooling elements) did not work during the entire stay. We could get some ice from the bar but that wasn’t enough.

Mi è piaciuto The man who checked us in.Very helpful.

Non mi è piaciuto Where to start! The toilets were dirty and for the size of the camp(4 toilets are awful) the pitch was small.You have to move the van,awning etc.. for someone to get in besides you!! Poor planning! The restaurant is over priced,had a meal in the restaurant and had mouldy burger bread.Couldn’t enjoy the bar if they had a group playing.Either buy a ticket or leave!

Thank you for your comment, but I think your opinion is not completely objective...
I remember well the discussion we had together regarding musical evenings. The ticket to pay (4€...) and on the entire site. I hope this won't prevent other pitchup users from forming their own opinions. You can't please everyone and frankly it's not any worse.

Lake Salagou is watersports central – within five minutes’ walk from the pitches, you can be out on the reservoir sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and swimming. Back on dry land, hiking trails lead into the rugged Mourèze foothills, which you can also explore on horseback (15 minutes’ drive) or mountain bike. You can knock a tennis ball about (15 minutes) or up the thrill factor by abseiling and canyoning in Gorges de la Vis (45 minutes). Or how about trying something new and zipwiring past limestone formations deep underground in Clamouse Cave (25 minutes)? For slower-paced days out, tour the prayer halls, stupas and bronze statuary at Lerab Ling Buddhist Temple (half an hour, summer only), or drop in on the crumbling hillside Château de Lauzieres (10 minutes, now being slowly renovated) for an evening concert. The exceptional Lodève Museum (15 minutes) showcases archeological finds dating from prehistoric times right through to contemporary sculptures and paintings.
