Fancy finding a pitch from where you can explore the historic streets of Český Krumlov or head out into the fabulous scenery of the Novohradske mountains? Camping Relax is a quiet rural spot near the tiny village of Žďár, close to the Novohradske mountains and within easy reach of both Český Krumlov and České Budějovice.
On a grassed area just by the side of the road, this simple site is peaceful and has splendid open views over the surrounding countryside. There’s easy access to the pitches, which have electric and water hookups, but please note that you’ll need to be self-sufficient on the bathroom front as there are no toilets or showers here. There’s also no drinking water tap, so make sure to stock up on water en route. Kaplice (five minutes’ drive) is a handy place for supplies of all sorts, plus places to eat.
A play area with table tennis and a small football pitch are on site to keep the kids busy, and there’s also a wifi connection for a little bit of screen time – although you may well find they’re busy enough running about in the fresh air and helping you get ready for a barbecue dinner or a campfire evening (both are permitted on site). Dogs are welcome here too, so bring the whole gang along.
The rural surroundings here are excellent for hiking and cycling, and there are plenty of other activities around too – fishing, climbing, watersports and winter sports are among the options. There are several historic attractions nearby to visit as well, and popular Zoo Hluboká is half an hour’s drive away for family days out.

Start out by setting off to explore your local surroundings – there are several hiking trails in this area, including the three-kilometre route to the ruins of Poresin Castle. The walk around Louzek Castle and views from the Rozhledna Hradišťský vrch lookout tower (both 10 minutes’ drive) are worth checking out too.
Looking a little further afield, you could set off to the grand 13th-century Rožmberk Castle (25 minutes) or explore the historic centres of Český Krumlov (20 minutes) and České Budějovice (25 minutes) – both cities have been well preserved and are packed with colourful houses and historic buildings.
If the kids aren’t into that, take them to see the model buildings at Zážitková LEGO výstava - Czech RepuBRICK (40 minutes) instead. A day of meeting the animals at Zoo Hluboká (half an hour) is often popular too.
