If you’re looking for a slice of luxury along with a peaceful spot to lay your head in Kent countryside, the nattily decked-out pods at Rustic Retreats should be on your radar. Tucked into a quiet corner of a family-run farm just outside the village of Marden, they’re designed for adults only and are surrounded by fields where you can watch horses grazing. Each smartly designed pod is suitable for up to two adults and has a kingsize bed (linens supplied), an ensuite with hot shower and a cleverly laid-out kitchen corner with a Belfast sink and all the essentials. There’s a comfy sofa and dining area too. Moving outside, you have a private deck, outdoor seating and countryside views as well as parking a short walk away. Friendly dogs and cats live on the farm and will most likely come by to say hello during your stay. For this reason, no pets are allowed in the pods. There are a couple of essentials stores and pubs in Marden (five minutes’ drive) as well as takeaways.

For something a little bit different, combine a stroll among the vines with a tasting session at Chapel Down Vineyard (35 minutes), where quality sparkling wines are produced.
