The Chequers Inn

Mi è piaciuto: Very pretty location, lots of horses around the place which was nice. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The Park Warden especially deserves a mention - my pitch was completely flooded out and I woke up to find he had given me a nice drawbridge over what was now a moat. He also unplugged me and found me a new pitch - I didn't even get my feet wet! Pub is lovely - will recommend the Sunday carvery. Pitches have both hookup and water. Always makes a difference.

Non mi è piaciuto: The flooding! Wellies are an essential item here. My van had about 8" of water all around it. My friend paddled home to her van in the pitch next door. A heads up that the pitches on the right as you go in at the pub end of the site are drier, but you will need blocks. The WiFi does not extend to the campsite, or it didn't where I was, you can only really use it in the pub.

Mi è piaciuto: The location on the island was great. Staff were helpful and friendly. Lovely space but not good in winter.

Non mi è piaciuto: It was very wet and muddy- which you would expect in February- but a lot of the hardstanding pitches were a swimming pool. The two available pitches out of the water did not accommodate an awning easily on the grass, as the grass sloped up dramatically. We managed to move to a hardstanding with less angled grass but it was a bog in places and we literally were sinking to our ankles. Another thing that made it difficult was the removable bollards at the front of the hard standings. They are a good idea as such. We wanted to come and go, but this was made difficult as the fixing was very proud of the ground and we did not want to damage the bracket, or our vehicle.

Mi è piaciuto: Good pitches, even in the rain. Electric and water was on tap (pun intended). The service in the pub was excellent and the food was fabulous. Overall a good stay. They do now have portaloo's and bins, however I used my own, so didn't have a look to see what they were like.

Non mi è piaciuto: Lack of showers, but that was made clear in the description, so that was expected. A bit noisy from nearby traffic.

Non mi è piaciuto: Pub nice but pricy. Pitches were water logged to grass areas. Boots soaked and muddy. Gravel hard standing good but some on a slope.

Mi è piaciuto: Place, and food. The place was peaceful. Just did an overnight, but would be good to do longer stays to do walks and MTB around that area. The food at the pub was fantastic. The food made our evening and we had a really enjoyable meal.

Mi è piaciuto: Good site behind the inn,little boggy here n there but they had suffered from storm ceiran with torrential downpoors before we got there.level site hard standings,so good access and pub/inn only 100m to walk to with very friendly helpfull staff and food was excellent.situated in the centre of the island so perfect for a base to travel no more than 20 to 30 mins to all parts of the isle of wight.will definately book there next year.cheers Garth t..

Mi è piaciuto: The pub, should have thought to book a table, as it was very busy that night. The hard standing pitch was great due to poor weather. Given the pitch number by text or pitch up message, paid on arrival and electric is included in pitch fee.

Mi è piaciuto: The camp site is very quite most of the time the Cheques inn does really good food which will do a takeaway if you don't want to eat in the pub nice play park to keep the little ones happy This was my second year at the chequers can't wait for next year

Non mi è piaciuto: Pitches are stone but not very level especially when putting up an awning
