You may have visited Rutland Water before, but have you ever spent the night right there on its banks? Well, here’s your chance to do just that, because Lyndon Top is spread out over a peaceful 112 acres on the southern shore, with stunning views over the water. And while those views are wonderful, there’s a fair amount more to see around the lake’s shores – so it’s handy that you can set straight out from the site for walks or bike rides on the path that runs all the way around the edge (22 miles in total). On top of that, there’s plenty of choice for other outdoorsy activities, including fly fishing, birdwatching, golf, canoeing and windsurfing (along with boat cruises and lakeside dining if you’re after minimal activity). Think a barbecue at your pitch might be more your kind of thing? Top plan. Barbecues are allowed at Lyndon Top, and you can pick up whatever supplies you need in Oakham or Uppingham (both 10 minutes’ drive), or while out in Stamford (15 minutes). Back at base, it’s a peaceful setup that welcomes families, couples and solo campers (and dogs, if you’d like to bring them) to spacious pitches in a tree-lined field. Handy facilities include picnic tables and a chemical disposal point, along with a very smart and well-equipped modern amenities block that houses stylish toilets and showers, a washing-up area, a family bathroom and accessible facilities, Lyndon Top is not the place for a party of any sort, so the site doesn’t accept bookings from single-sex groups or other non-family groups.

Campeggio spazioso e moderno con vista spettacolare sul Rutland Water. Le strutture igieniche sono impeccabili, degne di un hotel. Ben curato, con ampi spazi tra le piazzole e personale cordiale. Ideale per passeggiate e ciclismo, offre una fuga tranquilla. Piccoli inconvenienti: poca acqua fredda in alcuni lavandini e suggerimenti per più ganci nei bagni.

Mi è piaciuto Friendly service, accessible site and super well maintained facilities. A great site for our first Campervan pitch, highly recommended.

Non mi è piaciuto As new campers, it was generally a fab place. Only improvement to suggest is that we were a little confused where to pitch up when first arrived, and maybe a marked way to the sluice area on the way out.

Mi è piaciuto The toilet and shower room were spotless at all times, both day and night. The people at reception were very friendly and helpful. The site was also regularly checked to ensure everyone’s safety. Overall, a very clean, friendly, and well-maintained place.

Mi è piaciuto We booked last minute as the weather was beautiful for October, what a stunning location. Right on check in was impressed, fabulous greeting and our pitch over Rutland lake. Plenty of walks straight off the site. We took a walk to nomanton church, and enjoyed amazing sunsets over the lake.
The bathrooms were hands form thr best we’ve ever been too. Great easing up facilities, perfect size pitches.
We look forward to returning again, Rutland is stunning snd the site is spectacular
WiFi is a bit hit and miss but that never bothers us as that isn’t a priority for us, and most sites we’ve been too have similar connections. Always a pleasure to slow life down, enjoy outside for what it offers.

Mi è piaciuto It’s a brand new site and the facilities make you feel like you’re staying in a hotel. We will be returning back in spring. I just hope other customers look after it because if they don’t it will really let down the place.

Non mi è piaciuto The hooks behind the bathroom doors are stuck on and I think over time won’t be able to hold dry robes or anything of such weight.

The area immediately around Rutland Water is a real playground for those who love outdoor activities. Rutland Water Golf Club is pretty much next door, and good access to the lakeside trail means you can easily get out to cycle around the entire perimeter or take a walk to Normanton church (an hour’s walk), set on a little spur in the lake. Fishing (for trout and pike) and birdwatching are available in several spots around the lake, while up on the north shore you can play miniature golf, hire watersports kit or bounce across the inflatables at Rutland Aqua Park (15 minutes’ drive). When it’s time for a rest, head to the sandy beach area (10 minutes) or take a cruise across the water (15 minutes). Away from the lake, you may like to stroll among the blooms at Barnsdale Gardens (15 minutes), see the vintage trains at Rocks By Rail Living Ironstone Museum (15 minutes) or step inside some grand buildings with trips to Rockingham Castle (20 minutes) and Burghley House (25 minutes).
