Fishing for a calming hol spent out in nature? Net yourself the dream stay at Woodland Waters, a family-friendly site on the edge of Ancaster village, 15 minutes’ drive from the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. This scenic spot would be quite the catch for fishing fans – there are five well-stocked fishing lakes on site where carp, tench, bream and others are up for catch and release, night fishing is available on request and matches are held throughout the year. Anyone not keen on casting a line can devote energies to other pursuits, like rustling up a picnic spread for lakeside eats, spending some time with the kids at the play area or exploring the 72 acres of wooded valley. Not biting? Wander the Ermine Street Roman road (which stretches between London and York and passes through Ancaster) or hurry along to Ancaster Leisure (10 minutes away) for karting, paintball, laser tag and bowling. That sounds like an itinerary that requires high energy, so make sure to spend some onsite time in Woody’s Bar and Lakeview Restaurant to sample homemade and locally sourced food, chug a few ales, beers and wines, challenge someone to pool, boules or darts, cuddle up next to the woodburning stove, and take in the views over the lakes while listening to tunes from the jukebox.

Mi è piaciuto Hardstanding pitch with EHU, friendly reception staff, menu choice and welcoming staff at woodies even though there was a mini crisis with there cookers, also facilities were very clean and close by. Dog enjoyed the wooded walk only a short 2 night stay but would highly recommend.

Non mi è piaciuto Wifi was a little weak, but we had good 4G reception.The rain when packing up on Sunday Boo.

2nd time staying here. Loved it will be back

Mi è piaciuto Spacious, quiet but sociable. Scenic. Pub/resteraunt on site was fab. Clean. Next to water. Great stay. Automated entrance and exit.

Mi è piaciuto Lovely wooded area with on site facilities. Restaurant was lovely, with air conditioning that was a g-d send 🤣.
Turned out to be a musical weekend too.

Mi è piaciuto We stayed last year for a night and liked the site so decided on 3 nights this year. It happened to be the music festival weekend and even though the site was packed the facilities were still well looked after. Staff are extremely friendly and the bar / restaurant very handy with good food.

Friendly staff would definitely book again.

Mi è piaciuto Lovely pitch. Stayed in a fully serviced pitch with views over the lake. Lovely restaurant onsite with delicious food.
Bonus, as the weekend we booked it turned out that there was a local music festival there too.
Small gathering of local musicians. It really made for a wonderful relaxing weekend.
The sunshine helped too!
Quite a few different toilet/shower/cleaning facilities available.
Lots of open space and lovely woodland walk.

Non mi è piaciuto The shower block closest to the fully serviced pitches could have done with a little updating. Tiles and floors had seen better days but were still serviceable.

Good site would visit again

Seperate dog area (at extra cost) but was really good

Mi è piaciuto Liked the lovely walks through the woods, Woodys bar is lovely, there always seems to be plenty of entertainment on if you want it.

Non mi è piaciuto Toilets a bit far away from our pitch. Would be good to see another set built in the future at the other end of the sute.

Mi è piaciuto Really big pitches. Toilets and showers were really spacious and clean. Parks were very good for the children. Fishing lakes were excellent.

History buffs will certainly want to make their hasty way to this part of Lincolnshire. It’s a treasure trove of old England… Grantham (15 minutes’ drive) is a top choice for first forays into the past – it’s the town where Isaac Newton attended school and is home to the spectacular 14th-century Grantham House as well as a local history museum that gives an overview of everything from the Normandy landings to the Iron Lady. If appetites for stately homes have been whetted by Grantham, satisfaction can be found within easy reach: the 17th-century Belton House and its gardens, parkland and adventure playground are 10 minutes from base, and Newton’s homestead of Woolsthorpe Manor (although much more modest) is within 20 minutes – just watch out for falling fruit… Step back into the present day and take to the open air for refreshing saunters around Easton Walled Garden – referred to by US president Franklin D Roosevelt as ‘a dream of Nirvana… almost too good to be true’ – and the scenic market town of Sleaford, both 15 minutes from home base. Need more bang for your urban buck? Lincoln is 35 minutes away for shopping and even more history, and Nottingham’s arboretum, caves and Robin Hood experience are within an hour.
