Pod prêt-à-camper
A aimé A lot of pitches (statics, touring caravans, tents and campervans, as well as 2 pods) but didn't feel too hemmed in and wasn't noisy either. We had one of the pods and it was perfect for me & my 15yr old son. Well equipped with a new combination microwave oven, kettle & mugs, mini fridge (just big enough for pint of milk) and heater. Had 4 sleeping zones with reasonably comfortable mats which looked pretty new. Would've been cramped with 4 in, though, I think. You can convert the bottom 3 beds into a giant bed instead but you'd lose the table doing that. Clean and cosy.
Site has a single shower/toilet block - 8 pods each with a sink, toilet & shower. Heated too. Separate block for washing up (3 sinks) with sitting area, kettle and books/jigsaws. There is also a baby changing room/disabled toilet in this block. The pods are provided with a washing up bowl, washing up liquid and a tea towel, which is a nice touch. There is even a laundry facility. The grounds are well maintained with a small park for young children. Recycling facilities, one of my bugbears, are well covered.
Easily accessible from the main road but far enough away to be quiet. The village of Evanton is within walking distance and has a pub, takeaway and Co-op.
We came for the off-road cycling and, boy, we found plenty of that! Views around the area are incredible. We even made it over to Ullapool, on the west coast, a drive easily done in a couple of hours.
N'a pas aimé Very little to dislike but enough to lose a star. Shame we couldn't park next to our pod. We were allowed to unload close to it but we then had to move our car. My biggest gripe was the apparent lack of regular cleaning to the toilet/shower block. They were very clean on Monday evening when we arrived but the floors weren't washed through the week (we came away on the Friday morning). The block wasn't dirty as such - just they could've done with a quick clean during the week.

A aimé Large pitch with plenty of space. Loved being so close to the trees. Plenty of toilets, washing up facilities, hot water and recycling / waste bins. Really friendly host.
N'a pas aimé I pitched my tent to the right of the main entrance. It was a great spot but there was a lot of background road noise

A aimé Choice of two fields. The lower was a bit more sheltered, and closer to the site's amenities, but the upper was more spacious and had the better views. Plenty of toilets and showers and all were cleaned regularly. Good shop and cafe / bar on site. Great location - brilliant for walking or cycling. Loved watching the housemartins flit across the field of an evening
N'a pas aimé Non-existent recycling facilities. That miffed me, to be honest. Cafe & shop shut too early on summer weekday evenings. 5pm is not long enough

A aimé Quiet farm location, well-equipped utility area with fridge, washing machine, microwave, kettle & sink. Great walking in immediate vicinity. Easy access to King's Lynn and the coast
N'a pas aimé No freezer for coolpacks. Only 1 toilet and shower. Traffic noise overnight from A47. Unfenced pond might be a problem for young children

A aimé We chose 5B, the side of the lake with electric, and we're right next to the lake. But, to be fair, all touring/tent pitches were the same. Beautiful setting. Very clean. We fished (or tried to!) and cycled in the surrounding countryside. There is a cycle track just the other side of the site but you have to use the road to get to it. Not a problem as not too busy.
There is a butchers about 5mins drive north and a bakers in Ambernesnil, about 10mins drive west.
The site has at least 1 toilet/shower block. One near the entrance and there may be another where the bulk of the static caravans are. There is a burger van in the summer season. Two petanque pitches, a table tennis table and a small football/basketball pitch.
One of the highlights was walking to the far side of the lake and watching the otters swimming. Only the second time I've ever seen them in the wild! A wonderful moment :)
N'a pas aimé Broadband is a bit hit and miss. Showers don't run hot, merely luke warm at best. They are powerful though and you get a long time for your (free) token.
