On an island that’s known for its gorgeous beaches, it makes sense to find a place to stay close to the coast – and that place could well be Camping Calacavallo, a small private site a few minutes’ walk from one of Sardinia’s most gorgeous beaches (and within easy reach of several others as well).
This small and laidback site is up on the island’s northeast coast, between the villages of Punta Molara and Salina Bamba, close to the protected marine park around Tavolara island. The sheltered beaches are nice and safe for swimming and sunbathing, and the area’s protected status means that there’s plenty of marine life to see if you go snorkelling along the coastline.
Being close to the coast means you can get to all these lovely locations easily enough… and it brings an extra bonus in the form of sea breezes to keep everything cool on site.
Accommodation here is in a caravan sleeping up to five in comfy beds with mosquito nets, and it’s got a well-equipped kitchen for your meals. The caravan itself is just part of the setup though – your space also includes a large covered veranda that houses a big dining table (seating up to six) and space to relax. The bathroom (with a hot shower) is outside too, and cleaned three times a day.
As well as your own private space, you’ll also have access to the wider campsite setting, which has a swimming pool, tennis and other games, plus activities and entertainment. There’s also a mini market and a pizzeria, and it’s all securely fenced so kids can play in safety.

Attractions à proximité
This is privately owned accommodation where your host, Elke, is happy to offer tips and help you out with things like organising boat trips or advising on places to go. She can also serve as tour guide on request, or rent out kayaks for a small fee.
As for beaches, well, you’ll have plenty of choice. As well as being able to walk to the wonderfully wild Spiaggia Grande Baia you may also like to head to places like Spiaggia di Cala Paradiso and Brandinchi beach (both five minutes’ drive) or drive to the end of the peninsula and Spiaggia di Capo Coda Cavallo (10 minutes). Snorkelling/diving trips, kayaking and boat trips can all be organised nearby, and there are plenty of lovely walks or bike rides to try as well.
Of course, there are heaps more beaches to visit around Sardinia’s coastline, but for something different you may like to travel to Olbia (half an hour) to visit the archaeological museum and the Basilica of San Simplicio and do some people-watching on the Corso Umberto.
