Head to this site in Rio Grande do Sul state if you're after a roomy site with easy access to the beach. Not just any beach, mind you, but the splendid sands of Cassino, a seaside resort 10 minutes' drive from this site. For eagle-eyed readers, the name Cassino may well ring a bell – this beach (for the benefit of those who need to swot up on their geography) is the longest in the entire world, with a mind-boggling total length of 150 miles.  Camping do Senandes is set over a slightly more modest (but still spacious) area of just under 10,000 square metres of well-kept grass. The site is located in a safe and secure spot, with plenty of trees around the pitches to give shade on sunny days. Lighting also helps guests get around site after dark (a feature particularly handy for guests looking to catch a spectacular sunset or two at the beach).  Kids at this family-friendly spot can amuse themselves at the soccer field and play area, while features such as wifi and barbecue grills are likely to be appreciated by adults looking to whip up a meal or plan their next move. Those looking to stock up on supplies or sample local food and drink can head for Sendades' local shops and bars (15 minutes' walk) or drive 10 minutes into Cassino for a wider range of options.

With so much sand around, it's clear that watersports are on the cards: head to Cassino (10 minutes' drive) for surfing, snorkelling and sailing opportunities. Fancy setting sail in search of local wildlife? Seals dwell on the rocks that line these shores – stick around in town to arrange seal-spotting tours in nearby waters. In search of less salty splashes? Campark waterpark (25 minutes) is the place for you.   The nearby town of Rio Grande (20 minutes) is your best bet if you want to find out more about the local area: its oceanographic museum covers the flora and fauna you're likely to encounter hereabouts. The colourful, colonial-era Alfândega building is also worth swinging by. For more historic sights, head to Pelotas (50 minutes), whose cathedral and museums are bound to teach guests a thing or two about the way things used to be around these parts.  Looking to reconnect to the natural world? Taim Ecological Space (50 minutes) is an untouched wildlife haven that's home to a range of critters (including particularly cute and cuddly capybaras).
