A aimé Such a beautiful campsite near a working farm and with mountain view. The property is vast and different elevations gives more privacy. You can see horses and sheep right next to the site. Short drive away from kendal town but gives wild camping vibes when quiet

Peaceful, back to basics camp site in a good location.
Emplacement pour tente ou pour caravane pliante sur herbe sans électricité
A aimé The campsite was peaceful, with plenty of space to pitch your tent.
The field is on a working farm but was tidy and the portaloos were kept really clean during our stay.
There was good phone signal and it was in an ideal location for us to be close to lots of attractions.
Extra bonus that the money goes to charity!

A aimé We really enjoyed our stay at Peacock Farm. We are frequent campers but had never ‘wild’ camped before, so I wasn’t sure how we’d get on. But I think the plus sides of the setting made up for the lack of plumbing. We had a really lovely chat with the shepherd who talked us through all the different types of sheep they have, which we all loved.
There is currently two portaloos on site, which were absolutely fine as they were, but we just took anticbac wipes to keep them clean for the little ones. The loo roll was topped up as well! And not only that but the day after we arrived the farmer installed a sink unit that we could use for washing up - it was hooked up to grey water butts with their being no water on site, but even if it was hooked up to nothing, let me tell you it’s easier to washing up in a sink with your own water, than in a little tub! So we were appreciative of that.
We all said we would go back (three families camped) again and would be nice to see how the flock progresses next year

Excellent, tell your friends

A aimé I really do not like camping, but when your 5 year old granddaughter asks to go camping for her Daddy's 40th birthday, you can't say no.
I am so glad that we did though.
Peacock farm is in the most beautiful and tranquil setting. Andrew and his family are welcoming and helpful. The site is easy to pitch the tents on, although there may be some stony parts.
We enjoyed an early evening barbeque, we used a raised one which I would recommend. Veggie burgers for my daughter, beef for the rest of us, followed by toasted marshmallows on chocolate digestives (yummy) then a lovely walk to burn off those calories, giving Ronnie the horse and his friend a pat on the way.
We had planned to stay 2 nights, but Storm Floris had other ideas so we decided to quit while we were ahead, and dry!
Couple of things to note.
It actually cost less for 2 nights than the price of 4 ice-creams at Windermere!
It is a working farm, but there are NO animals in the camping field, so there will be animal noise and poo.
There is NO potable water, so bring your own, or you can get large bottles from Morrisons in Kendal. I believe there are plans to provide a dishwashing station in the future.
There is no electricity or WiFi (thankfully)
The toilets are portable and they were very clean.
To sum up. If you are looking for a peaceful, no frills, tranquil camping break then this is for you, but only for 60 days a year, and all profits go to Dreamflight
(www.dreamflight.org) a charity that takes children with serious illness or disability on a holiday of a lifetime to Orlando. So a win-win for everyone.
Definitely planning to go again next year and have my alert set up ready for it.

Great site, amazing views & location, some facilities can be improved
Emplacement pour tente ou pour caravane pliante sur herbe sans électricité
A aimé The views were so picturesque and beautiful, very quiet and relaxing place if that is what you are after, we were one of only 3 other tents in the whole field - and it was a huge field! Really clean portaloos. Great to be surrounded by animals - sheep & horses.
Very cheap.
Perfect location for what we wanted, right in between Windemere and Kendal.
The staff member we met was really lovely, gave us some of his own water for washing up as we enquired if there was a tap, gave us some info about the sheep on the farm and said we could watch them being fed! Really helpful and lovely.
N'a pas aimé Land is a bit uneven and not massively clear where to park and where to pitch up, car parking area is the most even part the rest is quite hilly. The track/road up to the campsite is very rocky and tiny, can be a bit of a difficult drive.
No water tap or showers but were made aware this is something they are looking into.
No bins for rubbish, unsure if we were supposed to take rubbish home with us?
As lovely as it was for it to be so quiet it did feel a bit strange to only be one of three others there in such a huge field, especially at night with no lighting - can feel a bit scary and isolating, as you really are in the middle of nowhere, just fields for miles. Even some solar fairy lights / outdoor lights would help with this I think. I think it depends what sort of trip you are looking for, probably perfect if you are looking to wild camp, we just weren't expecting it to be quite so quiet and isolated!

A aimé What a perfect setting for an almost wild camp! This was our first camping trip and it was just me and my two boys - maybe a brave choice given the basic facilities - but it worked for us!
The views in every direction were uninterrupted and beautiful. We had two friendly horses behind us and sheep in the field next to us. We met one of the farmers and he invited the boys to help him feed the sheep - he was lovely to chat to. I did feel a little isolated, as at one point we were the only tent on the field, but Carl put my mind at ease and checked I had their phone numbers if I needed them.
The 2 portaloos were very clean, but there were 'proper' toilets down the lane at the holiday park, next to The Whistling Pig pub.
A great base for our adventures; close to Windermere town centre where we stocked up on food. There is a closer shop in Staveley village if you needed.
Strong phone/internet signal.
Would 100% visit again!

Great site for a more wild camping experience
Emplacement pour tente ou pour caravane pliante sur herbe sans électricité
A aimé It was lovely and quiet. No set pitches so can pick your own spot for the views. The kids loved to be able to see and hear the animals any time they wanted.
Only tip would be to make sure the seat is down on the portaloo after use to limit the smell for the next user
