With a privileged location between the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south and Northumberland National Park to the north (and easy to access from the A69), Sunniside House is a peaceful site about a mile (15 minutes’ walk) from the small village of Acomb. There are excellent views from nearly every angle here, including far-reaching vistas over the surrounding Tyne Valley and out to the Pennine peaks beyond. Facilities at this simple, rural Northumberland site include a shower, toilets, a washing-up area and a communal fridge; and a limited number of pitches ensures that everyone has sufficient breathing space. You may be able to help the farmers feed the lambs on site (in spring only), or perhaps you’d like to delve into centuries of local history, whether it’s hitting Hadrian’s Wall for rambles along the old Roman frontier (10 minutes’ drive, or a two-mile hike) or checking out the small church of St. Oswald’s in Lee, named after King Oswald of Northumbria, winner of the seventh-century Battle of Heavenfield, which may have taken place at Chollerford (10 minutes), just across the River North Tyne. After your exploration, it’s back to base to freshen up, then off to the popular local pub (about a mile away) for a pint and a home-cooked meal. Disposable barbecues are welcome, if you’d rather eat on site, but they are only allowed in designated areas, while firepits can be rented. Packs of kiln-dried wood, kindling and firelighters are available to buy. Please do not bring your own fuel.

There's a clean shower and toilet, also use of a fridge freezer. The family were very friendly. We had a nice walk out to the river, about 4mile, local village is about 1mile.

A aimé Absolutely beautiful site with lovely friendly owners and superb views! The pitches are immaculate, complete with privacy screening and gorgeous table and seating. Facilities are great and within easy reach of the pitches too.
Loved my night here and will definitely be returning in the next few weeks.

A aimé We loved the remoteness and quiet at Sunniside, however it's also only a short drive to Hexham and easy access to other areas to explore, with pubs and shops nearby. Our hosts were very polite and accommodating, and for a small campsite they took care to provide all the services we required. It was clean and everything functioned well. We would happily return here, as well as recommend to others who want a trouble free, peaceful setting with a few like minded campers. We were travelling with a roof top tent and the space provided for us was ideal, with seating and table and excellent views.

N'a pas aimé Not a dislike but just to say - this site is amazing view for being up near top of hill, but (as owner themselves mentioned) obviously that means: 1. A slight slope to pitch on and 2. when it's windy/rainy it will be exposed so quite a different experience to calm dry weather.

A aimé Lovely owners were really helpful with directions and a quick explanation of the site. Great view over the surrounding country side. Simple but good and clean amenities. Great space to set up. Good access to A69, with Hexham being the larges nearby town. Good access to pubs just a little way away in Acomb.
A little sloped in parts but this is well explained in the booking and honestly not massively significant.

A military settlement that later developed into a thriving frontier town, Corbridge Roman Town - Hadrian’s Wall (10 minutes’ drive) is home to the ancient remains of barracks, temples and storage facilities. An on-site museum displays some of the items recovered as part of the Corbridge Hoard, such as delicate figurines. Elegant country mansions in the area include National Trust - Wallington (half an hour), which dates back to the 17th century and is filled with pre-Raphaelite paintings and assorted art objects. Its expansive grounds include vast swathes of woodland crossed by the River Wansbeck. The Discovery Museum in Newcastle (35 minutes) showcases scientific and technological advances made in the region, from Joseph Swan’s first lightbulb to George Stevenson’s steam engine. Stop at Grainger Market to stock up on foodstuffs, then cross the iconic Tyne Bridge to reach the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, housed in a refurbished flour mill.
