Heading to Hull, hitting the beach in Hornsea or taking on the Trans Pennine Trail? Whatever it is that brings you to this part of the country, Tower Hill Caravan and Camping makes an excellent base for an East Yorkshire break. This well-kept and peaceful rural site is in the hamlet of Great Hatfield, about three miles from the coast and the seaside town of Hornsea. It’s also got the Trans Pennine Trail passing very close by, so makes a handy place to bed down for a night or two at the start of your walk or bike ride. Tower Hill is a small site but it’s big enough to house a good collection of useful facilities, including a launderette, a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities. It’s also got a wifi service that comes in particularly handy for planning days out or checking your walking/cycle routes. You’ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue to cook your meals here as long as it’s kept off the ground (no campfires though, please, for safety reasons). If you’d like someone else to do the cooking you may like to walk along the trail to the nearest pub, about 45 minutes away, or into Hornsea, an hour away, for pubs, cafés or a fish and chip supper on the beach. Hornsea’s also your nearest place for shops, and has various attractions including Bugtopia Zoo and boating on Hornsea Mere. Hull is about 25 minutes’ drive away for The Deep aquarium and the Streetlife Museum.

N'a pas aimé: Wasn’t aware you needed change to use the showers We was happy to pay ( but would have took some pound coins had we known in advance)

A aimé : Everything was perfect! We arrived after a long day cycling and it was so nice to come to a lovely, friendly, clean and calm place. Everything you need and a super easy site to navigate. Perfect location and lovely view over the wind farms too. Couldn’t recommend more, thank you! We loved it!

A aimé : Quiet site,very small,spotless toilets,showers,concrete hard standing.

N'a pas aimé: Signs were hard to find,look for the water tower.

N'a pas aimé: Nothing, only down side was the WIFI wasn’t working.

A aimé : Good location, altho a little hidden away(maybe do with better signage). Really well laid out plots and the adjoining "tent" field looked like a well manicured bowling green. The plot was fully serviced and so easy to access. The toilet and showers were extremely clean and looked like they had recently been built, some of the best I have experienced.

N'a pas aimé: The site is obviously still being developed and some building/ renovation work ongoing. Once finished this site will no doubt be one of the best in the area.

A aimé : Lovely new campsite. Very well set out and very clean and tidy. Definitely will return.

N'a pas aimé: Maybe a sign to make the site entrance more visble from the road.

A aimé : Site is very new and clean, it provides a practical stopover for motorhomes/campers

N'a pas aimé: It's daft expensive for what it is - 25 notes for the most basic of pitches and then a charge for the showers which is, frankly, a p*sstake. It's unmanned and there is no-one to speak to onsite. Facilities are very basic, the water in the loos and kitchen is lukewarm at best, so I hope the daft charge for the showers offers actual hot water. There are no no walkable pubs/bars/eateries in the area without doing the 2 miles of road to Hornsea. The Wifi was unusable on the pitches - which means no entertainment, that's usually ok but there's absolutely nothing to do on site as it's less than 10 pitches and the size of the site reflects that. Expensive for what it is - stay was pleasant enough in terms of cleanliness and practicality, but I won't be back.

A aimé : Great hardstanding pitch and toilets very clean didn't use showers as meant to stay one night and these are £1 to use but we had to leave on the same night due to family emergency.

N'a pas aimé: No-one came to show us which pitch to use or where facilities was luckily the gardener was there to show us. Road on site wasn't great lots of pot holes and no waste bin.

Attractions à proximité

Hornsea is likely to be your first port of call – you can drive there in about five minutes, walk in 45 or cycle in 20. There’s a lovely sandy beach up here, with plenty of places to pick up fish and chips or ice creams, and several other attractions including Bugtopia Zoo, Honeysuckle Farm and boating on Hornsea Mere. The town is also home to a leisure centre with a swimming pool, and an outlet shopping village. For a wilder stretch of coast, head over to Mappleton beach (five minutes’ drive), or pack your binoculars and make your way to Flamborough Head (45 minutes) to look out for seabirds. To see marine life instead, head into Hull (25 minutes) for a day at The Deep aquarium (the free Streetlife Museum, home to all sorts of old vehicles, is well worth a visit too while you’re there…) Other places to visit in the area include Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (10 minutes) and the lovely town of Beverley (25 minutes), which is full of independent shops.
