Fishing trips by torchlight, a diving school right on site, a golden beach within a short walk, a beaut national park setting, a huge range of activities for all ages and tastes… is only a teeny bit of what's on offer at fab and lively Marbella Club Villaggio Camping Palinuro. It's simply spectacular around this chunk of Italy's Campania region: Marbella Club is in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, a scenic 10-minute walk over the Mingardo river to the swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling of Lido Arco Naturale beach. The port at Palinuro town, three kilometres away, is the departure point for boat trips across to the Blue Grotta in Capri and various other spectacular sea coves along the region's coastline. Or you could go rafting on the Bussento river, or delve into the days on offer from the Marbella Club diving centre right on the site, to explore the 35 or so sea caves along the eye-wateringly pretty waters of Cape Palinuro. Hiking trails are within easy reach too for those who prefer to be on dry land, or there are the award-winning beaches of the Marina di Camerota to investigate: have a day each at Calanca, Marina delle Barche, Lentiscelle, Mingard… Loads of options are around on this spacious site, so that all ages and tastes are sorted for days back at base. The kids' club has a vast selection of daily activities from a team of professional entertainers, alongside other daily picks for all ages including swimming lessons, sports classes and aqua gym, and shows and music of all sorts in the evenings. There are two big pools too, one for big folk and one for small; sporty spaces for football, volleyball and games, and a wifi zone for general surfing or researching how to hone your diving techniques. For tipples and eats, the restaurant-pizzeria dishes up treats all day from a sweet and savoury buffet breakfast to lunch and dinner with a meat or fish main and a pick from the huge choice of side dishes. A kids' menu is available for ages four to nine. An American bar is also on site to keep grownups nicely occupied; there's a well-stocked mini market for other eats and drinks, and you can arrange your reading material or souvenir shop at the newspaper kiosk, bazaar and tobacconist.

Attractions à proximité

Take the private path 10 minutes or so from the site to reach the local beach of Lido Arco Naturale, a private stretch overlooking the sea between Palinuro and Marina di Camerota. Sun loungers and beach umbrellas are available to hire if you're in contentedly idle mode; swimming and snorkelling are tiptop around here if you're feeling somewhat active. If you're feeling even more active, access one or some of the hiking trails within easy reach from both Palinuro and Camerota, or a little further afield beginning at San Marco di Castellabate and finishing 11 kilometres from there at Punta Licosa. For an easier option, walk the 45 minutes or so to Palinuro, and then from there about 20 minutes in either direction to reach more spectacular Tyrrhenian coast beaches, or to book a boat trip to the Blue Grotta in Capri and other regional sea coves. Also well worth a day out at nearby are the hillside town of Centola, reachable from Palinuro by bus; the abandoned village of San Severino, about 10 minutes' bus ride or 15 minutes' drive from there, and the Greek and Roman ruins of the archaeological site of Velia, 40 minutes' drive from the site. For day trips, try a trek around the ruins of ancient Greek city Paestum, seaside times around the Amalfi Coast and Capri, and a look a the Certosa di Padula monastery, part of the UNESCO-listed Cilento World Heritage Site along with Paestum and Velia.
