You know you’re booking into a place with a good bit of personality when you learn that the owners have a Highland cow called Bonnie, who’s particularly partial to custard creams… Abergwynant Farm Glamping is a family-run Gwynedd business that’s been welcoming guests to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park for more than 70 years. Current owner Richard started running the place in 2020, taking over from his nan Doris (although she still plays an active part in keeping the lovely gardens in bloom throughout the year). It's not just Bonnie that you'll see at the farm; there are also horses. The animals are all lucky enough to live on this gorgeous farm, which is spread across 400 acres of land and takes in lakes, forests and gold mines, all set in the foothills of Cadair Idris (one of the highest mountains in the national park). Keen to see more? There’s direct road-free access to the Mawddach Trail for easy walks or bike rides to Barmouth, Dolgellau or Fairbourne. Handily, there’s a pub about 40 minutes’ walk along the trail for a bit of refreshment too. Back at base, there are helpful amenities including a shower and toilet block with an outdoor tap.

Ce camping est enchanteur, paisible, avec de belles vues et des hôtes serviables. Les clients ont apprécié la nature, les chevaux et les vaches Highland, ainsi que l'emplacement idéal pour la randonnée et le vélo. Les installations sont propres. A aimé The location was amazing, the perfect little campsite! The facilities were so clean and tidy, shower had great pressure, the washing up sink is a great touch! The view of the ponies in the field just made it more perfect! Short drive away from Barmouth over the lovely toll bridge, great walks around and looks like a great cycle path along the estuary! We will definitely be returning😊

A aimé Small family ran farm site, limited pitches in a quiet area meaning it felt very wild but with good amenities shower block and toilets.
Field overlooks paddocks of horses and the nearby forest.
30mins walk to local pub via estuary path. Used as a base to climb Cadair Idris approx 10min drive to start of trail.
I’d stay here again.

Itinéraire

From the direction of Dolgellau on the A493, the entrance is on the right-hand side of the main road. There is a sign on the wall with the name Abergwynant Farm. Head down the driveway and over the humpback bridge on your left. You'll see a couple of wooden gates next to the log cabin. Head through the gates to the motorhome pitches. For camping, continue a bit further along to the car park. There is a paddock opposite the car park with the camping pitches.

Attractions à proximité

Once you’ve meandered along the Mawddach Trail, you might like to set your sights on a bigger challenge by climbing Cadair Idris – it is within walking distance of the farm. If mountain biking is more your style, you’ll want to head for Coed y Brenin Forest Park (15 minutes’ drive), known as one of the country’s top mountain bike sites. Of course, you might just want to take it easy instead – in which case, you can follow walking trails from Dolgellau (10 minutes) or ride the Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog (40 minutes) up to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Alternatively, stick around at the coast for the lovely sandy beaches of Fairbourne (10 minutes) and Barmouth (20 minutes, linked by a short ferry across the estuary or head up to Harlech Castle (40 minutes), in a spectacular clifftop spot high above the dunes below. A little further north is Portmeirion (40 minutes), an Italian-style village with colourful houses and acres of subtropical garden to explore.
