Whether you’re pining for a peaceful Derbyshire break or planning outdoor adventures, you’ll be in an excellent location at Carsington Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. The touring pitches here are tucked away within a pine plantation 10 minutes’ drive from Ashbourne – a setting that brings a lovely scent, attractive views and a natural soundtrack to your stay, as well as providing shelter from various weathers. Set in open clearings around the woods, the pitches feel secluded and have plenty of space to set up your kit. It’s a lovely spot to put your feet up and relax – but also a great location for outdoor activities, with the shores of Carsington Water just a 15-minute walk away. Sailing, windsurfing and fishing are among the options down there, and there’s also a large playground for the kids. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to non-members as well as members, with discounted rates for members. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a £69 membership. Membership is certainly worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site over the coming year – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus other perks including access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The facilities here are high quality and geared up for touring guests. You’ll have access to a launderette, wifi, a motorhome service point and bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby-changing areas. Bring your dogs along too – they’ll love all the local walks, and can use the on-site dog park as well.

A aimé Easy access. You can choose your own pitch so have a quick look round. Easy check out. They have a very small shop for the essentials. 2 x play areas for kids. Dog wash area, that's a great idea. Toilet/shower block was always cleaned and tidy. Showers were good. Seperate unisex toilet so you can have a private pool. Laundry room.

A aimé What a little gem of a place, set in a lovely wooded area, the reservoir was really close and a nice walk down to the visitors centre where there are a few shops, cafe etc.
Lovely and. Lean, shower and toilets were spotless.
Had fish and chips Friday from a van which was great.

A aimé Beautiful setting, welcoming staff, spacious pitches, great facilities, good location for walks from site and a great dog walking trail onsite.

N'a pas aimé Nothing to dislike, just have to be aware of children riding bikes in terms of safety, particularly around the play parks.

A aimé Loved this camp site! We stayed for 3 nights at the end of July as a family of four. It was so peaceful and our boys loved the parks! The team were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again! Clean facilities and good soze pitch spaces.

A aimé Well organised, lovely well kept site and clean facilities. A close walk to the lake.

N'a pas aimé Majority of pitches were shaded by pine trees and there were a few branches and cones dropping in the wind. But overall there wasnt anything major.

A aimé Really nice area and campsite. Lovely little dog path around the site and a short walk to the reservoir.

Facilities immaculate. It was quite busy the day we arrived but we were able to reserve a spot next to us for our friends arriving later.

N'a pas aimé WiFi wasn’t great but that wasn’t a big issue

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach rather than following a satnav, which is likely to navigate you to the rear entrance. Please do not attempt the narrow route from Kirk Ireton or use the A52 from the west due to steep gradients. Recommended route: turn left off the A517 (Ashbourne Belper) in Hulland Ward at the signpost to Carsington Water into Dog Lane. In 0.75 mile, at the crossroads, turn right at the brown signpost to Carsington Water. The site is on the right after a mile.

For another great local walk or cycle outing, head to Ashbourne (10 minutes’ drive) to join the Tissington Trail, running for 13 miles along a traffic-free former railway line. Being just outside the Peak District National Park, you’ll also be close to lots more walks, including those around Dovedale (20 minutes) and Lathkill Dale (half an hour) or the Monsal Trail from Bakewell (25 minutes). Meanwhile, climbers can have fun at Harboro Rocks (10 minutes). For different days out, ride the cable car at Heights of Abraham (15 minutes), try the rides at Gulliver's Kingdom (15 minutes) or visit the National Tramway Museum (25 minutes). You could also spend the day at Chatsworth (50 minutes) or potter around local gardens like Lea Gardens (20 minutes) or Hopton Hall (five minutes). Families might also note that Alton Towers (half an hour) isn't far off…
