  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site in a pine wood by Carsington Water
  • Just outside the Peak District; 10 minutes' drive to Ashbourne
  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
Whether you’re pining for a peaceful Derbyshire break or planning outdoor adventures, you’ll be in an excellent location at Carsington Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. The touring pitches here are tucked away within a pine plantation 10 minutes’ drive from Ashbourne – a setting that brings a lovely scent, attractive views and a natural soundtrack to your stay, as well as providing shelter from various weathers. Set in open clearings around the woods, the pitches feel secluded and have plenty of space to set up your kit. It’s a lovely spot to put your feet up and relax – but also a great location for outdoor activities, with the shores of Carsington Water just a 15-minute walk away. Sailing, windsurfing and fishing are among the options down there, and there’s also a large playground for the kids. This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and it’s open to non-members as well as members, with discounted rates for members. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or buy a £69 membership. Membership is certainly worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site over the coming year – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK sites, plus other perks including access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The facilities here are high quality and geared up for touring guests. You’ll have access to a launderette, wifi, a motorhome service point and bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby-changing areas. Bring your dogs along too – they’ll love all the local walks, and can use the on-site dog park as well.

What customers say

This serene woodland site is praised for its lovely setting, tidy facilities, and roomy pitches. Friendly staff are a highlight. Great for hikers/bikers near Carsington Water. Dogs welcome. Minor points: no heat in washrooms when cool, spotty WiFi, small shop. Food trucks Fri/Sat.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Nice quiet location with good views with walking access to Carsington water and the onsite facilities were excellent

Disliked The WiFi signal was quite poor on the service pitches, the signage for the path to Carsington water was not clear and the signage for the actual site was small and hidden you dont see it until youre nearly missing the entrance

Liked Friendly welcome, good size pitch,
Facilities were good - clean and well looked after, but lacking any heat which myself and a few other campers were quite surprised at especially at this time of the year.

Disliked Internet was not available most of the day.
Heating ought to have been on in the showers.
Shop was almost empty.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Fantastic campsite, really lovely pitching up in a forest, amazing trees 🌳 spotless facilities, lots of walks straight from campsite (circular walk through the forest surrounding the site), very dog friendly, quiet and peaceful stay. Small shop at reception, pizza van on Saturdays if you don't fancy cooking. You do not get an allocated pitch, you can pitch wherever is still available (surprised of how busy the site was in Oct, over 120 pitches capacity and only 3 free when we arrived 😊).
Pitches are on gravel, mostly flat, surounded by trees and a very nice layout offering good privacy. Electricity polls are spread around the site so some pitches have it directly on the spot, for other pitches you will need a 20-25m cable just in case.
We stayed on pitch 121 which was close to reception, and relatively close to the facilities building (check map at reception for best choice). Tip: pitches 5,6 have a nice lake view so if you are lucky to find them available they looked very nice.
You can walk to Carsington reservoir if you fancy a long walk or if you prefer driving, 4 min to the visitor centre where there is plenty of parking, lots of walking trails, restaurant and cafe, souvenir shops, clothing shops , ice cream and every area is dog friendly, nice play areas for children, picnic benches so a really nice area.
We loved our stay here, a shame that we only stayed for 1 night and we can't wait to return.

Liked Very pretty Site, lovely setting and surroundings.
Facilities were immaculate.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The Pizza company that arrived on Site and provided us with a lovely meal.

Disliked Very limited choice of pitch, but that is only probably because of how popular the Site is.

Disliked Pizza van pizza was terrible but not the sites fault. Dough was about 2mm thick and like plastic. Fish and chips were great though

Local attractions

Canoeing, paddleboarding and fishing are among the activities at Carsington Water, and it’s also a lovely spot for a walk or bike ride. For another great local walk or cycle outing, head to Ashbourne (10 minutes’ drive) to join the Tissington Trail, running for 13 miles along a traffic-free former railway line. Being just outside the Peak District National Park, you’ll also be close to lots more walks, including those around Dovedale (20 minutes) and Lathkill Dale (half an hour) or the Monsal Trail from Bakewell (25 minutes). Meanwhile, climbers can have fun at Harboro Rocks (10 minutes). For different days out, ride the cable car at Heights of Abraham (15 minutes), try the rides at Gulliver's Kingdom (15 minutes) or visit the National Tramway Museum (25 minutes). You could also spend the day at Chatsworth (50 minutes) or potter around local gardens like Lea Gardens (20 minutes) or Hopton Hall (five minutes). Families might also note that Alton Towers (half an hour) isn't far off…
