Me gustó Situated on the beautiful and rugged Lunga estate, the Urchin cabin provides a level of peace and tranquillity that cannot be easily rivalled. We visited in February, a time when the landscape is starkly beautiful but unapologetically bracing. The temperatures were still quite cold at night, and often during the day, which only adds to the feel of the environment. With zero light pollution, a clear night reveals a stellar canopy of stars, offering a profound sense of wonder. Waking up to the incredible views across the loch is an experience that stays with you.

Amenities & Practicalities

•Comfort: The hosts have thoughtfully provided everything you need for a home away from home, ensuring a welcoming space to return to after a long walk.

•Preparation: Do take their advice on what to wear and what to bring. The coastal winter chill is very real, and packing appropriate layers ensures you can enjoy the rugged surroundings comfortably.

•Accessibility: The cabin features an open-plan living area and a large bathroom with a spa bath, making it a highly comfortable base to recover from the elements.

Exploration & Surroundings

For those who thrive on history and the outdoors, the cabin serves as the perfect spot to set off for day trips around Argyll and Bute to explore all on offer. You can step straight out into coastal walks right from the door. If you appreciate walks in nature, excellent local seafood, and the grounding feeling of being in a wild and ancient landscape, then this is the place for you.

No me gustó While the cabin offers a magnificent retreat, there are a few practicalities to keep in mind, particularly for those who require specific physical comforts after a long day of exploring.

•Sleeping Arrangements: The beds lean towards a very firm mattress. This might be perfectly supportive for some, but it is certainly worth noting if you prefer a softer place to rest.

•Climate Control: The heating system throughout the cabin is entirely adequate, though it does require a bit of delicate balancing to find the right temperature.

•Bathroom Temperature: The bathroom features a sauna vent which, while part of the setup, made it quite difficult to warm the space effectively during the colder February days.

•Winter Preparation: Do take the estate's advice on what to wear and what to bring. If you are planning a winter visit, it is best to come fully prepared for these crisp conditions. Packing an extra blanket or two for the bed is highly recommended to ensure a cosy night.

Me gustó The cabin was lovely
I arrived late and the light outside was left on and the cabin was heated so it wasn’t cold on my arrival
The kitchen was remarkably large and had all the equipment you could need
The views were lovely and it was so quiet
The log burner heated the property well
The shower was good and efficient
The bed was very comfy
There are lots of lovely walks around the estate
