Thirty minutes drive away from our idyll is Glastonbury, identified in Arthurian legend as the island of Avalon. Dating back later in medieval times is nearby Wells, England’s smallest city and home to “the most poetic of the English cathedrals”. To complete the tour through the ages, your route to Warren Farm will probably take you through the Georgian masterpiece that is the city of Bath. But if being active is more your thing, then you can choose between the attractions of caves at Wookey Hole, biking both on and off road, or a touch of fly fishing at the nearby lake of Blagdon. An absolute must-do is the energetic 45-minute walk down the valley to Cheddar, home to the village’s last cheese producer, The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company.
