Dreaming of a place where you can escape for a cosy break with your other half – and no kids? You can turn that idea into reality at Manor Farm Retreats, an adults-only glampsite in the Norfolk countryside just outside The Broads and about a 20-minute drive from both Norwich and the coast. There’s just a small number of shepherd’s huts on site here, and each of them has been done up to a very high standard, with a kingsize bed, an ensuite shower and toilet and a kitchen area (with an induction hob, microwave and fridge). Underfloor heating and a woodburning stove should ensure that you’re never chilly while cuddling up inside your cute little hut. This setting is all about soaking up the local landscape and rural peace that goes with it – the huts have been set up in the estate’s woodland, with views over pasture that’s grazed by horses. It’s a great backdrop to drinks or dinner at your private outdoor eating area (although there is also a dining table inside for damp days). The whole site is a kid-free zone but dogs are welcome to join you on your break if you wish. You may well decide to spend the bulk of your break simply relaxing in this lovely location, but when you do decide to venture out there are plenty of attractions around: this area is well known for walks, bike rides, fishing and country pubs, and you can stroll down to the edge of the scenic Norfolk Broads in 10 minutes or so. Alongside that, nature reserves, beaches, museums and golf courses aren’t far away either.

Me gustó Very lovely accommodation, very clean throughout. Beautiful setting with the horses in the field in front of the shepherd hut. Absolutely peaceful and no children, but dogs are welcome. Late Saturday evening sitting on the steps of the hut with a bottle of beer and not a sound. We booked for 2 nights and it was so relaxing. Approx 20 mins drive to the beach which has a dog friendly section. The day of departure we had booked a mississippi river boat ride on the Broads which also allowed the dog, this finished off a lovely few days. 10 out of 10

Me gustó We had a lovely long weekend at the Oak Hut. Gorgeous setting, horses in the paddocks, Kestrels and other birds in the trees and Peacocks singing in the distance. The hut is well equipped, bed comfortable, hot shower and it was lovely to be presented with a bottle of wine on arrival. Well placed for an easy walk to the River Yare and a short drive to the coast for sea walks and the broads for walks, windmills, loads of wildlife, canoe trips and pub meals. Perfect!

Me gustó Location... especially its proximity to the river. Interior quality of the shepherd's hut was good, , very comfortable and adequate. The woodburner and TV , a nice touch, as too the bottle of wine upon arrival.Easy check in / check out process.

No me gustó The advertising pics did not show a range of paddocks as the view, I thought it was sitting looking across a field. Slightly overpriced for the time of year. Suggest including a grater and some salt and pepper for the kitchen?

Me gustó Staying at Manor Farm Retreats was exactly what we needed for a quiet weekend away. The Oak (the hut we stayed in) was cosy and felt like a home away from home. We enjoyed the local villages nearby and stopped at Great Yarmouth for the day.

We loved staying at Manor Farm Retreats and are looking forward to coming back in the future!

Me gustó We had a lovely time here, the hut was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. Shower nice and hot and the underfloor heating welcomed. Very comfy bed and rural location meant we had a lovely sleep. We stayed in Oak which was the furthest down, but great for our dog as she had a little more room to wander for a toilet break. Owner was friendly and had great communication.

Me gustó This is a lovely place to stay as a couple with or without a dog. Our hut was in amongst the oak trees and all the huts are located to have a great view of the horse paddock. The huts are absolutely gorgeous and have all the facilities you need. The shower is excellent as is everything in the hut, a wonderful place to relax, chill and recharge. Owner is on hand if needed and lets just enjoy the place on you own if you should wish with self check in and check out, love it. We will definitely return and highly recommend a visit if you want to unwind in the countryside.

The main attraction around here has to be The Broads – stay at Manor Farm and you’ll be a mile or so from its main waterway, the River Yare, which you might like to explore by hiring a boat from Brundall (10 minutes’ drive). Unsurprisingly, this is a popular area for wildlife – one of the best places for sightings is RSPB Strumpshaw Fen (10 minutes). Follow the river all the way along (perhaps on the train that runs from nearby Cantley) and you’ll get to Great Yarmouth (20 minutes), where you can spend the day on the beach or visit the Sea Life Centre. For other animal attractions nearby, try Africa Alive! or Banham Zoo (both 45 minutes). Other days out in the area might take you to Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum (10 minutes), to explore the historic streets of Norwich (20 minutes), to play a seaside round of golf in Gorleston (25 minutes) or to admire the painted ceilings and elegant gardens of the Blickling Estate (40 minutes).
