Post-holiday blues can take two weeks to banish

Sep 21 2012 Posted by Laura Canning

Bad news if you’re coming back to work from holiday – it can take over two weeks to feel fully up to speed again, with the average time to get back into a routine judged at eight days and 22 hours.

Research commissioned by Cornish ale company Tribute found that three-quarters of people surveyed have had the post-holiday blues, with seven out of ten saying it takes over two weeks to deal with the workload waiting for them when they get back to the office. Half of those surveyed said it took until the third day of being back at work before they felt on form.

Swapping scenic views for the daily commute, and holiday meals for the supermarket run, means that over half of travellers try to prolong their holiday feeling by browsing through photos or seeking out the food and drink they had while away.

The top ten reasons stated for post-holiday blues were:

1.            Catching up on washing

2.            Having to set the alarm clock

3.            No lie-ins

4.            Missing the holiday views

5.            Tackling the daily commute

6.            Making meals

7.            Contemplating the pile of ironing to be done

8.            Catching up on work emails

9.            Fading tans

10.          Doing the weekly shop

Good news - banish the blues by booking a weekend break or short trip at one of Pitchup.com’s campsites and holiday parks: there are loads of different types to pick from, including ones that are open all year. Bon voyage!
