The neatly maintained camping field
Pitches around the exterior of the field
Pitches surrounded by trees
Pitches for all sizes and shapes of tent

  • Quiet family-friendly pop-up site in the Lake District National Park
  • Derwentwater 10 minutes’ walk; Keswick shops five minutes’ drive
  • Activity centre next door and River Greta strolls from the pitches
A handy five minutes’ drive from Keswick shops, tearooms and pubs in the Lake District National Park, the spacious pitches at Keswick Camping sit on a well-maintained, level grass field. You’ll certainly have plenty to do there, what with the activity centre on site, tennis courts within 10 minutes’ walk and a local golf course (10 minutes’ drive) nearby too. This pop-up site is set up for peace-loving outdoorsy types and families, so if you’re looking for rowdy late nights it’s just not the place for you. The camping field has room for kicking a ball around with the kids, and you can soon be out in the countryside to give any dogs a stretch of their paws. Alternatively, you can have a quiet ramble into Keswick along the River Greta, which runs alongside the pitches. As befits its back-to-nature, adventure camping vibe, there are few facilities – no electric hook-ups, showers or cooking facilities – but there are spotless separate loos for men and women, and standing water taps around the perimeter of the field. If you need to stock up on basics, there’s a small supermarket within five minutes’ stroll; anything else you should be able to source in Keswick. Need sightseeing inspiration? Keswick Information Centre (five minutes) has got you covered.

What customers say

Small, neat campsite near Keswick town centre. Clean loos, good value, peaceful for short stays. Hard ground for pegs & noise/parking can be an issue when busy. No showers for longer stays. Signage & check-in improved.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Close to town centre and everything Keswick has to offer.

Disliked Worst aspect was unable to move car close to pitch (even to unload/load) as the gates are kept locked, so everything had to be lumped across the campsite which we weren't expecting.
No washing facilities which we knew about but would have been nice to have had some degree of warm water (even solar).
Expensive for what it is.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Easy going small site, dry ground with some wind protection and clean toilets. Ideal location for hiking or just to have a nice weekend away.

Disliked Bit of a pain carrying all camp equipment from the car as we were staying 2 nights and needed to cook etc but a 1 night stay would be fine

Liked Toilets were clean and tidy.
Short walk from Spar and Twa Dogs pub although we didn't use either.
Only 5 mins drive to town/shops with a range of places to eat.
Park nearby
Easy to find, well signposted
Lots of birds around in the day and bats in the evenings.
Flat, gravelled carpark, had no issues parking.

Disliked Ground was very hard just under the surface but this wasn't an issue, after reading similar reviews prior I bought some heavy duty steel tent pegs from home bargains which went in no problem, would recommend having a mallet.
Feel like this site would be much cheaper in other places but it's the lakes and everything is expensive. It was the cheapest option to make our 2 night stay possible and we were happy with everything while there.

Liked Great stop off for 1 night during my Cumbria Way hike. Easy to find location, flat pitch and clean toilets.

Disliked No showers, didn't matter to me, i was only there 1 night but i think for the price showers should be provided or the price should be at least £10 cheaper. Note. . I did know beforehand that there wasn't going to be showers i just think it should be cheaper without them.

Local attractions

If you’re looking for lots of outdoor adventure, well, you’re in the right place. Derwentwater is close at hand for sailing, kayaking or paddleboarding on the water, and you can book lake cruises on wooden craft from the Keswick Launch Ticket Office (both 10 minutes’ drive). Further afield, hike up Skiddaw or Blencathra (both 15 minutes) for peerless views over Derwentwater and Scafell Pike. If you hit a rainy day, keep up with your exercise regime on the indoor facilities at Keswick Climbing Wall-Rookery Woods (five minutes), where you can also enrol in ghyll-scrambling jaunts when the weather clears. To soak up a bit of ancient local culture, check out the haunting, 5,000-year-old Castlerigg Stone Circle (five minutes), backed by fells and especially atmospheric at sunset. You can also learn about local industrial history at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum (10 minutes), where you can tour a copper mine and take a vintage steam train ride on the narrow-gauge line running between Threlkeld and Keswick.
