  • Dog-friendly site in the Northumberland National Park
  • Half an hour's drive from Kielder Forest and Hadrian's Wall Path
  • Café-bar on site with a patio and veranda; International Dark Sky Area
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

What customers say

This neat campsite offers ample, flat pitches and lovely rural views. Staff are consistently praised for being friendly and helpful, with the on-site restaurant and bar lauded for quality and fair prices, plus charming farm animals. Facilities, while generally clean, are noted as a bit dated and undergoing upgrades, with some capacity and upkeep issues. Overall, a great experience, with many keen to return.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely little site in a beautiful location. The owners / staff were so accommodating, funny and friendly. The pitches were a good size with power and water close by. The bar was well stocked with spirits and local draft beer, lager and cider, and not too badly priced. The toilets, showers and washing up facilities were perfectly acceptable. The outside seating areas were great and well sheltered in the from the sun and wind. The site rules meant everyone was polite and respectable, making it the great site for all group types.

Disliked Just being nit picky here as these things weren’t a massive issue, but a minor inconvenience. There was no waste bin in the gents shower room and the bin was tiny in the washing up area. The bar/cafe opening hours were limited over the bank holiday weekend when we were hoping to stay on site and use the facilities and not drive into the newest town. The warm water ran out quite early so many of our party had Luke warm or cold showers, or had to wait an hour while the showers were closed off to heat up before heading off out for the day. Finally, the females in the group would have liked sockets by mirrors for hair drying/straightening.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The campsite is set in beautiful surroundings and overall has a pleasant atmosphere. However, we found it to be quite noisy at times due to frequent barking from farm dogs nearby.

One disappointing aspect was the lack of consistent hot water, particularly during midday, which was frustrating. In addition, the toilet and washing facilities were insufficient for a campsite of this size. With only two men’s toilets, three showers, and one washing-up sink available, there were often queues for both the bathrooms and washing facilities.

With more adequate facilities and a reliable supply of hot water, this campsite would have been superb.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is our new favourite site. As soon as we pulled in we received a friendly welcome from Michelle the new owner who explained how everything works and where to go.
The park is a lovely quiet place at the bottom of a hill with wildlife everywhere. It's the perfect stop for a relaxed quiet stay in nature with the benefit of excellent clean facilities and a great bar and cafe.
The cafe serves nice home cooked food at fair prices and the bar is well stocked with local beers and Peter is great craic and really friendly.
Don't pay any attention to the reviews upto 2025 as it was ran by different people. And although Peter says it's still a work in progress you can see all the great work they have put in to make somewhere really special.
Needless to say we will be back.

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
