What customers say

Great Peak District views, peaceful vibe. Friendly owner Steph, clean facilities (showers ace!). Ideal for Castleton/Mam Tor walks. Watch for busy-period toilet queues & occasional noise.

Bell tent

Liked Location was perfect for exploring the peaks and a short walk to a lovely pub which was very welcoming. Quiet site and toilets were clean and tidy and well stocked. Kitchen area was clean and showers were ok although temperature was up and down. One on the right was best for pressure and consistency of temperature. Plenty of plugs to charge things. Nice touches with washing up liquid available and eggs for sale

Disliked Bell tent is now much smaller than in images still on website with just one space with a double and single camp bed and small shelf. Feels a little cramped with three people and large bed which takes up much of the space with little room for anything more, although in summer you could be outdoors in better weather. No electricity in tent so when it says bell tent includes electric this is not in the accommodation. Also the location of the bell tent is at the entrance to the site and is not enclosed as it seems in the images so you do have people passing in and out in cars and walking past although not a big issue it's worth knowing. Toilets are very close by though.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Freedom to pitch wherever you like on a nice site. the laid back owners were great to deal with. Great to have amenities like fire pits and logs to purchase and there’s a close by town you can walk to a pub who do takeaway pizzas you can get to the site. Eggs and produce from the farm you can buy in the wash room which was nice. For the cost it was very good.

Disliked Only downside was only 2 showers total and they are quite poor, albeit housed in a beautiful building, meaning there were significant queues for showers and some queues for toilets of which there are 4. That said it’s a great site and I would visit again for sure!

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Lovely little campsite in the hills of Derbyshire. Easy check in, the owner was nice and friendly.
The facilities are good, well stocked and kept clean.

Disliked The ground in parts is a bit bumpy.
Could do a couple more toilets.
Unfortunately had to leave a night early.

Local attractions

Castleton (15 minutes’ drive) village is a very cute local spot. Its show caverns (including Peak Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern and Blue John Cavern) have contributed to its fame, but the stone houses and views of Hope Valley and the High Peak are also ravishing. A walk up Mam Tor (15 minutes) is likely to please outdoorsy types. The five-mile route passes through heather moors on Kinder Scout and a reservoir before reaching the 517-metre hilltop in the High Peak. After your climb, you might decide that the Bakewell tarts and puddings of Bakewell (20 minutes) are the next natural course of action. The market town also has access to the Monsal Trail, a cycling route through old railway tunnels. Tuck into your sweet treats on the riverfront, a popular spot with other consumers of the famous tarts. There are some splendid walks around Chatsworth House (half an hour) should you crave more outdoorsy days out. Royal family members live in the house, so interested folks can book a tour to see some of the historic rooms (and the surrounding 105-acre garden and farmyard if they so wish).
