Jun 6 2011 Posted by Lewis Shields

Put away the lawnmower, lock up the tool shed and forget about buying him yet another pair of socks. Whether it’s fishing, golfing, surfing, shooting, or even just enjoying a pint in an old country pub garden, there are hundreds of outdoorsy activities to do this Father’s Day. Pitchup.com looks at the best camping and caravan sites near to 'dad days out' around the country for an early summer weekend away:

1) Siblyback Lake Campsite, Cornwall

Siblyback Lake Campsite on the edge of the Bodmin Moor is a top spot for water sports of all types, from windsailing and surfing to rowing and kayaking, and even WOWballs, where you take to the water in a giant ball. Siblyback is also the ideal place for dads who like their fishing – Siblyback Lake is a Trout Master Fishery and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, with casting available from the bank and on the water. The Siblyback Outdoor and Active Open Day falls on Father’s Day this year, so water sports and activities a plenty, as well as the dad-classic barbeque, for an invigorating and enjoyable Father’s Day weekend. Pitches priced from £13.00 per night.

2) Hooton Lodge, South Yorkshire

Hooton Lodge has camping pods for visitors to enjoy all the best bits of the great outdoors without the hassle of pitching your own tents. Fishing at Hooton Lodge is open from 7.30 am on the River Don for dads to try their hands at landing roach, chub, bream, gudgeon, trout, barbel and dace all day long. Enjoy a delicious farmhouse breakfast at the lodge before you set off and don’t forget to order fresh sandwiches from the bar to keep your angling party going all day long. 3) Craig Tara Holidays, Ayr

Craig Tara in Ayrshire offer something for all the family – let the kids loose on the massive indoor pool with slides and funpools, whilst Dads take a few hours out for themselves on the Craig Tara landscaped golf course. Venture slightly further afield and check out the Open Championship courses of Turberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick. For a full day out, head to nearby Alnwick Castle for some archery lessons – bring the kids on this one as Alnwick is the castle used as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Two-bedroom caravans from £195 for three nights.

4) High Lodge, Suffolk

The beautiful grounds of High Lodge offer fishing, golfing and clay pigeon shooting and luxury self-catering lodges are available for up to six people.
