  • Kid-friendly site between Brabant and Limburg
  • Tours by mini train, animal meadow and playground with trampoline
  • Pool, walking/cycling paths, miniature golf and recreation room
Camping de Peel is very much a kid-friendly park. So much so that the pedal carts on offer for junior guests are there for free use – and surely any kid worth their salt will be chuffed at the mini train puffing its way regularly around the grounds...? Your energetic small sorts can also bounce around the nicely kitted out playground with trampoline, feed and pet the site critters in the animal meadow, and spend as much time as is (small) humanly possible in the site pool. If they need yet more entertaining, arts, crafts and activities such as treasure hunts are all arranged by the kids' club team. Options are plentiful for grownups too: you could gather up your family members for a game of miniature golf, have time indoors at the recreation room, set off out on the walking and cycling paths around the site, or enthusiastically apply yourself to the fare of the buffet evenings, organised when numbers allow. And as grownups will be the ones dispensing the euros, it's worth pointing out that a van selling fries and other tasty goodies trundles up to the site in summer. Camping de Peel is five kilometres from the North Brabant town of Asten, in the De Groote Peel National Park and the Strabrechtse Heide heathland – both tiptop settings for hiking and biking tours. Bike hire is available on site.

Local attractions

The surrounding De Groote Peel National Park is a preservation area of an old peat bog, now used for bike rides and walking as well as by nature spotters and birdwatching; this is a famed Netherlands birdwatching spot with one of the biggest bird populations in western Europe. To delve into the lot and to arrange guided tours and walks, the visitor centre of the national park is 15 minutes' drive away at Ospel. Going urban, local town Asten is a timely place for an afternoon's amble, to see the clocks and bells at the Clock and Peel Museum and at the Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry, the biggest manufacturer of cast bronze bells and bell/clock towers in the world. Twitchers and kids should also like a look at the town's raptor demonstration centre with its birds of prey flights and displays. If the kids are now calling time out on town days, take them to the theme park of Toverland 20 minutes' drive away at Sevenum, where they can whirl around rides including a motorbike rollercoaster.
