Beautiful location and views, but very basic and extremely quiet

Aug 2026

Liked Great views and loads of space Plenty of toilets scattered around the place Convenient for Scafell Pike and Coniston is only 25 mins away Easy to get away or to the lakes

Disliked limited facilities There is no water pressure so the showers don't work at all Washing up is not easy since its cold water only that dribbles out, I had to boil hot water. We went on a beautiful weekend in mid August and we were the only ones there when we arrived at 3pm on a Friday. Another couple of people arrived after, but that was it. It was simply too quiet for us, maybe people like this, but it was a bit eerie and it lacked any sort of vibe.

Lovely campsite with great facilities. Nice…

May 2023

Liked Lovely campsite with great facilities. Nice cafe onsight (also sells ice cream and alcohol) and basic shop. Mostly families staying when we were there at half term. Perfect for walks up kinder scout or trips to the caverns. Birds are singing loud at 4am in the summer so take earplugs. 4 really warm showers and I never queued once even though the campsite was busy. Plenty of room to play games in the grass. You can't park your car next to your tent but many pitches back onto where your car is parked. Best campsite in Edale area, and it's a bit sheltered from the elements. Staff really nice and helpful. Log burners available for hire but £15 a night. If staying for 3 nights I would buy one before and bring it.

Midge hell with limited facilities

May 2018

Liked Remote quiet site away from any roads Large pitches, you can even put up more than one tent Fire pit (but you need this for the midges). Picnic bench

Disliked Midges, and there are lots of them. This ruined our trip as you couldn't sit out in the evening past 8pm or in the morning. We left 1 day earlier because of them. Only one shower per gents/ladies. One toilet in the gents. Paying 20p each time to freeze each individual ice block got a bit annoying; as you kept having to knock on the door, count out the ice blocks, make sure you had change. I would rather just pay an extra £2 per day and have direct access to the freezer. No small shop to but essentials. All you can buy is midge spray and wood to keep them at bay - sums it up really.

From the manager: The heading for this review is totally misleading. Midges are seasonal and totally weather dependent. In fact since June this year there have been no midges due to the hot dry weather.
