Just simply spectacular... As you may have figured out from the pictures, Camping Simplonblick is a scenic and spacious place, made up of green grounds, colourful flowers and facilities that will keep you occupied from morning to night. Set just off the main road in Raron in Upper Valais, it's easily accessible by car, motorcycle or public transport and a central base for making day trips to popular Valais attractions. This is a self-check-in site with no staffed reception, so upon your arrival, you get to pick your own pitch. You may fancy cooling off in the pool (open during high season only) or heading over to the table tennis tables, pétanque court, play area or trampoline. After you're done with your activities, you may want to unwind at the on-site restaurant, which has a roomy terrace. The site has many modern and well-kept amenities and services: it's so clued up that it even has its own gas station. Surroundings await for active and scenic times too: it's minutes away from hiking trails around the Rhône river and five minutes' walk away from the cable car to the ski stations of Eischoll and Unterbäch, and within driving distance of toboggan rides, glaciers, the Matterhorn and the world's highest revolving restaurant. To add to that, there are several thermal baths/spas within half an hour's drive of the site.

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 06/06 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
  • Due to canton regulations, customers are required to use local bin bags. These must be purchased on site.

Great, modern loos and showers! Pitches usually big with awesome mountain views. Food gets a thumbs-up. Some reckon website photos don't show the industrial bits or busy road noise. Self-check-in and amenities sometimes tricky.

Liked Fantastic site in an excellent location to explore Switzerland.
Really good little pool area and children's park area.
Toilet/ bathroom facilities were absolutely spotless.
Small pizzeria restaurant on site.
Very hot on recycling. 1 free bin bag provided.
Self check in and choose your own pitch on arrival.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. Great little site.

Liked The campsite is fantastic located at the foot of the Alps. The ‘self check in’ is easy and you just find a free spot that fits you. The staff is driving/walking around the site and are very helpfull and friendly. Every time they said: is there anything else I can do for you. The toilets and baths are new and clean and working.

Disliked A bit confusing how we should sort the waist and the big containers were locked. If you raised the price a bit the orange wast backs could be free.

Liked Wszystko było ok. Duża parcela, czystość łazienek - super! Basen całkiem ok.

Disliked Można by trochę popracować nad placem zabaw dla dzieci - niektóre elementy wymagają ze względów bezpieczeństwa małej renowacji. WiFi działa tylko przy placu zabaw, ale taki detoks też jest ok ;)

Liked we liked the freedom of the site, if you have paid you just go and choose, pitches were big, restaurant was good, toilet blocks new, modern and immaculate.

Disliked not that we wanted wifi but unusable at caravan pitch so had to use restaurant

Disliked De plaatjes op de website komen niet echt overeen met de werkelijkheid. De plaatjes zijn mooier.
De camping ligt in een dal bij een plaatsje wat een beetje industrieel aandoet. De locatie tot plekken als Zermatt en Saas-Fee is goed maar de camping zelf is niet echt gezellig. Sanitair allemaal goed.
Maar niet voor langdurig verblijf.

Liked Super Campingplatz sind mit drei Kinder angereist. Toiletten sauber duschen, sauber Waschmaschine und Trockner mehrfach vorhanden tolle Landschaft wir können’s nur weiter empfehlen

Disliked Das mit dem Mülltonnen war nicht ganz klar gekennzeichnet aber ein großen Ganzen war alles wirklich super

Disliked Position of site was through a petrol station forecourt and into what looked like motel rooms. Tiered pitches overlooking dual carriageway. Not as per the pictures or description on the website.

Local attractions

Raron's locale is under an hour from the mountain resorts of the Upper Valais, from Aletschgebiet to Zermatt under the Matterhorn peak. You can travel over the border to Italy or to other Swiss cantons via mountain passes and spectacular views: particularly recommended by the site team are the Simplon Pass, connecting Brig in Valais with Domodossola in Italy's Piedmont, and the Furka Pass, linking Andermatt in Uri with Gletsch in Valais. Another tiptop option is a trip to the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in the Alps and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jungfrau-Aletsch. To visit a glacier from the inside, have a day at the Ice Pavillion of Saas-Fee, next to the world's highest revolving restaurant. A 70-metre long tunnel leads into the ice of the glacier, which can be reached via a subterranean cable car.
