It's free, quick and easy!
- Scenic site right next to a white-sand beach on the Swedish seaside
- Less than 10 minutes’ drive to Trelleborg and under 15 to Smygehuk
- Pier, small shop, miniature golf, volleyball, tennis and boules
If you like your sojourns to be somewhere that your nearest neighbour will be the sea, speed off for a stay at Trelleborg Strand, right on the seaside in Skåne county and under 15 minutes’ drive from the southernmost section of Sweden, Smygehuk.
This Götaland park opens out onto a fab sandy beach and has a pretty pier accessible to wheelchair users. A small shop selling fresh rolls and bread from Björn’s bakery means grabbing tasty treats and sprawling out on the white sand couldn’t be simpler.
Active times are also possible without stepping foot from the grounds as a miniature golf course, beach volleyball, tennis and boules are set up at the park. There are also guided tours to choose from – check in with staff to find what's on offer.
Rather amble of your own accord? Rent a bike from the site and tackle the Sydkustleden, a national southern coastal cycle path running all the way to Helsingborg in the north, a five-hour ride away. Keeping it local, this trail also passes by Trelleborg, the nearest town at a 10-minute bike ride away, and a bit further on to the Falsterbo peninsula (an hour and a half in the saddle).
On your return, rest up and refuel during dinner at the restaurant that sits right next door to the park.

Local attractions
First things first: take off for Trelleborg (just under 10 minutes’ drive) to trot along Sweden’s only palm-lined avenue, to potter with the peacocks in City Park and to point out the art murals decorating the streets to your travel pals before rifling the racks at the 30-odd shops in the Valen Gallerian centre.
Next, saunter to Smygehuk, a harbour and fishing village under 15 minutes away, to say you’ve stood at the most southernmost point in Sweden (and the whole of the Scandinavian Peninsula, in fact).
Ready to turn your attention towards the past? After getting a glimpse of a reconstructed Viking fortress in Trelleborg, aim for the archaeological open-air Fotoviken Museum, which gives a taster of what everyday life was like in a small village during the late Viking era and the early Middle Ages.
Torup Castle, 35 minutes away in the countryside, is another historical hotspot to head for – this building, constructed in 1540 by the noblewoman Görvel Fadersdotte for her son, is considered one of the best-preserved medieval châteaux in the nation.
