Message to all hikers on the Camino de Santiago (aka St James’s Way) – whichever of the ancient routes you’ve followed, you’re very nearly at the end point by the time you get to Camping Peregrino San Marcos. This relaxed and spacious site is seven kilometres from the centre of Santiago de Compostela, making it a handy spot for a stopover before the final push – or a place to retreat to for a well-earned rest once you’ve acquired your final stamp. That’s not to say that you have to arrive on foot at all – you’re equally welcome to come straight here and settle in for a holiday (with family and dogs in tow if you wish). There are numerous hiking trails nearby where you can get a taster of the area's scenery, and a shuttle bus runs to the city centre for easy days out exploring at your leisure. You might also like to head into the city for a meal (the seafood is particularly fine around here), although there's also a restaurant on site, and a barbecue area for alfresco self catering. Whether you’ve trekked across the country, taken a hike locally or just strolled around the city streets, the presence of a swimming pool on site for a refreshing dip is likely to be very welcome. The same goes for the beach bar, serving up cool drinks to end your day. A play area and games room are also on site to provide entertainment for the kids. Pitches here are spacious and shaded, sitting among the trees; they all have access to a launderette and washing-up area as well as toilets and showers.

Liked Very quiet when i stayed. All the staff were very friendly, professional and willing to help. All the services (toilets, showers and laundry room) were kept really clean, unfortunately the swimming pool was closed. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Stellplatz befindet sich im Grünen auf der Wiese. Stromanschluss ist direkt in der Nähe duschen, Toiletten sehr sauber.

From the moment you drive into the site to the moment you leave (in our case 10 minutes later- as we turned around after seeing pitches and facilities and drove out and stayed in a lovely site just up the road!) it reminds you of an eerie very dated and closed holiday camp.
We should have known as it was empty where most other sites were buzzing !
All pitches were in shade - pitch markings not clear (poles fallen over or run over) taps needed a very strange attachment to fix hose onto (we have several on board but never seen the like !) and tree overhangs low for Motorhomes. No privacy generally really unkempt and scruffy/ dirty.

Local attractions

The gorgeous city of Santiago de Compostela is a wonderful place to spend some time – there’s heaps to see here, so getting the shuttle in and out a couple of times is a great idea. The spectacular cathedral is the city’s glittering highlight, with the huge Praza do Obradoiro square just outside. Simply wandering the streets of the Old Town is lovely too – looking out for places like Praza da Quintana and stopping for drinks and eats along the way. To get a good overview of it all, head to Monte do Gozo (five minutes' drive/half an hour's walk), which has fabulous far-reaching views across the city’s rooftops. There are lots more places to have a walk nearby too (often involving a river or waterfall), plus fishing and horse riding. If you'd like to see a bit more of this part of Spain, Vigo, A Coruña and Pontevedra are all within an hour's drive, as is the lovely wine-producing coastal town of Cambados – all make excellent day trip options.
