- Scenic lakeside site set among the Sanabria Lake Natural Park
- Boat trips on the world's first wind and solar powered boat nearby
- Restaurant and terrace with spectacular views out over the lake
Peaceful, lushly leafy and right by a big blue lake: that’s probably how you’d sum this cracking site up in 10 words. And if you had several more, you’d likely tag on something too about the utterly spectacular views from its roomy restaurant terrace, its close proximity to a lakeside beach and the handiness for its historic local town of Puebla de Sanabria.
Camping Les Robles is in the middle of Sanabria Lake Natural Park, three kilometres from Ribadelago in Spain’s Zamora province. It has loads of outdoor activities to wax lyrical about too: you could hike to hidden villages, cast into the lake to fish for Sanabria’s famed trout stocks, wander around Puebla de Sanabria’s history-steeped plaza or take a boat trip on the world’s first entirely wind and solar powered catamaran.
When suitably peckish, hit up the lakeview restaurant for traditional bites such as habones, escabechadas and abuela; the restaurant has a takeaway service too, but why look for anywhere else when you’ve got such a spectacular terrace to dine on (cue pics)...
Pitches are surrounded by mature oak trees, with easy access to the immaculately-maintained sanitary block. A food shop is on site for any bits you may have missed when picking up provisions in the Ribadelago village or in Puebla de Sanabria, 13 kilometres from base.
The site has free wifi.

Local attractions
The world’s first wind and solar powered catamaran – the Helios-Sanabria – is available to ride on for views of Spain’s largest glacial lakebed through a glass floor. Generating zero emissions, zero liquid discharge, zero waste and – somewhat eerily – zero decibels, a ride on this boat from the Custa Llago jetty three kilometres away is quite the experience and comes highly recommended for explorer and scientific sorts.
A short drive around the lake’s perimeter will take you to San Martín de Castañeda monastery, a 12th-century building housing the nature reserve’s visitor centre. There's all the info here one could ever need about the hiking routes that network the area, as well as details about the wildlife and plant life surrounding it (including 142 bird species and no less than 1,500 varieties of plant).
Among the many local historic towns and villages, the standout is perhaps Puebla de Sanabria, 13 kilometres from base. Have a look at the striking town square fringed by historic buildings such as the 17th-century town hall, then wander along to the 12th-century Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Azogue village church; after that, time to head up to the town's Castillo for spectacular views, armour to try on and a camera obscura to squint through.
