What a pretty place – and how splendidly set for old city sightseeing too. Peaceful and family-friendly Camping Fuentes Blancas in Spain's north-western community of Castile and León is a bit of a beaut: set greenly and spaciously among the Castile and León countryside but only four kilometres from the fab old city and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Burgos. You can pedal all the way to town from here – hire your wheels on site if you haven't brought your own – along the mostly flat route of the BU-800 (you should get there in under an hour along the same path if you care to amble instead). Or you could ramble off along the site's handsome tree-lined trails, or take your bucket, spade, beach towel and fishing rod to the river and sandy beach a minute or two's stroll away. Have a gander of the site pics to see the scenery you'll be settling down among when back at base: you'll probably plump for mucho time on the green and spacious terrace for post-sightseeing or post-sands sups, pausing occasionally for a plunge into the pool if you need to cool off. The team sorts entertainment for all ages if you're in a bit of a dither about what to do, with competitions, dancing and shows all on offer; there's a communal lounge for lounging indoors, and the kids have a well-equipped playground to clamber and swing around.

Disliked Consejo: la recepcionista, recuerde a cada huésped que entre a que hora es la hora de la salida. Por que yo no me acordaba que era a las 12 del mediodía y sali a las 18:00 y me hizo pagar una noche que no me quede.

Liked El sitio está en una buena localización...se puede ir andando a Burgos por sitios muy bonitos cruzando la ciudad por orillas del río...va gente paseando...eso es genial.
Las parcelas están bien... pero necesitan mantenimiento..todo muy seco y algunas tienen socavones.. imposible poner una tienda . La piscina era pequeña pero estaba limpia y se agradeció con el calor q hacía.. aunque el agua estuviera fría...me gustó muchísimo...lo único las moscas..ji..ji

Disliked La falta de mantenimiento y de limpieza en general del camping. Los baños estaban sucios y el ir 15 minutos a escobar el pasillo ( que no los baños por dentro) y poner papel higiénico es hacer limpieza me parece poco. Basura por los fregaderos y las duchas de las piscinas 3 rotas y sólo funcionaba una....

Liked Easy to get into Burgos.

Disliked The shower and toilet facilities were shocking. No locks on doors, hairs floating in shower plug holes, graffiti on toilet doors, broken air dryers etc. Shower head fittings all broken. Broken tumble dryer in the laundry room which clearly had been out of action for a long time. There was no evidence of l maintenance. Close to a busy road so road noise was an issue. No existence of WiFi - we were told it was impossible to say whether there would be WiFi and there wasn’t. Again, this seemed to be the norm despite advertising WiFi.

Liked Good location for visiting Burgos. Bus is regular and only 1.20 euro. Grass pitch was shady and a decent size if a bit unlevel.
Good bar and restaurant on site. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Disliked Pool is tiny, nothing like the photo, child's pool was broken and empty. The riverside beach is a joke, the river is unsuitable for bathing. Showers and toilets are disgusting, four out of five WC with broken locks, one taped off as broken. Four out of five showers broken shower supports and broken tiles on the floor and wall. All the facilities need a full renovation. The bar area and toilets are dirty and untidy

Disliked Trop de bornes électrique en panne, manque de séparation entre chaque emplacement, camping un peu vétuste, et emplacement non attribué si vous partez avec votre véhicule les emplacements sont pris d’assaut par d’autres arrivants.

You might opt for a day on the beach or the Camping Fuentes Blancas terrace first, but do go forth to Burgos soonish, for spectacular sights galore in this splendid old city. Probably the most famed Burgos attraction is its cathedral, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 13th century and with various bits and pieces added since.
