In this life there are spectacular views and really, really spectacular views. If you’re interested in the latter, head up to the Huesca region’s tiny hamlet of Panzano and book in at Camping Cañones de Guara y Formiga. Sitting in shaded grounds planted with olive trees, this peaceful spot is at the foot of Tozal de Guara and surrounded by the mountains of Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park. There’s certainly plenty to keep everybody busy. You can drift around the swimming pool by day, sip cooling drinks from the bar or linger over leisurely restaurant dinners – and there’s a takeaway service too, if you’d rather eat en famille back at your accommodation. If you choose to go down the self-catering line, a communal kitchen and shared barbecues are offered too. The more active among you can get stuck into canyoning through the ravines along the Formiga River, or go hiking and mountain biking in the arid, rugged Sierra de Guara foothills. Finally, some practicalities: facilities cover spotless and accessible showers, a washing-up area and washing machine. And remote as the site appears, it’s still relatively easy to reach as the main N-240 is only 25 minutes’ drive away.

Liked Nice site. Not too big. Food in restaurant was really good. As was the service. There is no supermarket for good half hour drive so make sure you load up beforehand. Pool is large and well kept. Toilets/showers are clean but very old/basic. It’s in the middle of nowhere which while lovely means driving or a good bike ride. Make a visit to the reservoir dam and also numerous local caves. The canyoning from the company on site was absolutely incredible.

Liked Absolutely fantastic campsite - friendly and helpful staff, breathtaking location with easy access to nature, and impressively clean and tidy. Very good shower facilities. Pitches are nicely shaded among olive and cottonwood trees. The only thing to bear in mind is how rural it is - the only supermarkets are in Huesca, a 30 minute drive. Don't let this put you off though.

Liked Buen emplazamiento, las parcelas tienen riego, por lo que no está duro para plantar la tienda, hay mesas de picnic, la piscina está bien

Disliked Hay duchas sin colgador para dejar las cosas, las revisaría para reponer el cogador en todas, o incluso pondría dos, no hay donde dejar ni la toalla si no. Las que sí, tienen un colgador y ya con eso tiras bien si no lo salpicas mucho.

Disliked Algunas personas piensan que ir de camping les permite hacer todo el ruido que quieran hasta las 22:00 de la noche: gritar a sus hijos o poner una botella en la bicicleta para simular que van en moto. Yo entiendo que no se puede estar en absoluto silencio, pero hay que convivir con respeto a los demás. Unos carteles ayudarían a comprender esto y así, evitar enfrentamientos.

Disliked La mala distribución del camping, mucho desnivel en la parcela y están mejores las que dan a la piscina.
Falta una tienda en el camping ya que la ubicación hace imposible a menos de 30 minutos en coche ir a ningún supermercado.
El horario de la piscina debería ser más extenso.

Local attractions

A myriad of bizarre rock formations can be seen at Rodellar (50 minutes’ drive), Vadiello (40 minutes, where there are also awesome views over the namesake dam) and Riglos (about an hour). Something else you won’t see every day is bearded vultures in their natural habitat at Loarre (55 minutes) – they are surprisingly tame and you can get quite close to observe them. The Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park is famed for its challenging canyoning along the Formiga River (15 minutes’ walk), family-friendly hiking in woodland and harder way-marked trails in the mountain foothills. Cyclists are well looked after too, with MTB, enduro, road and gravel routes throughout the park. If you need a day off from all that action, it’s worth having a potter around Panzano (direct access), overshadowed somewhat by Tozal de Guara, at 2077 metres the highest peak in the Sierra de Guara. Now with just a handful of residents, the village has a striking Romanesque-style church, a peaceful central square and the vibe of a bygone age.
