- Small, friendly site 20 minutes' walk from the beach in Sodwana Bay
- Linked to a well-established scuba diving centre
- Excellent restaurant and bar with top-notch local meals and drinks
Scuba diving, snorkelling, safaris and a sweeping swathe of sandy beach – what a splendid setup has A Day in Africa.
If you’re into all things watersports, you’ll be among like-minded souls at this snug Sodwana Bay site – it’s linked to a well-established diving centre that’s got the whole range of scuba courses, kit hire and group dives, along with snorkel trips for folks who’d rather stay somewhat closer to the surface. Surfing, kitesurfing and sea fishing are nearby too, and there’s heaps of sunbathing space for those whose ideal beach day involves doing not very much at all, thanks.
Back at base (about a 20-minute trot from the seashore), plunge into the pool for a quick cool-down, then rinse off with a hot shower at the outdoor bathroom block before getting prepped for dinner.
And oh boy, what a dinner it is here: the site’s restaurant is all done out with traditional African decor and serves up a fab range of tasty meals including classic bunny chow, fresh seafood and steaks cooked over the coals of the braai. Folks fond of a tipple or three will be chuffed to see a tempting range of fine local wines and cocktails, and a welcoming fire crackling away in the boma to sip them by.

Local attractions
Desperate to delve into the big blue? How handy it is to have a dive centre right there on site – and even better when it’s one that’s got over 20 years of experience, and provides a whole range of training courses (CMAS, PADI and IANTD) and kit hire. There are tons of gorgeous dive sites to explore locally (the area’s a regular entrant on ‘best places to dive around the globe’ lists) and the folks here can hook you up with outings to greet the great whites if you’re up for a real adventure.
It’s not all about many metres down though – there’s plenty to see just below the surface, so the team can also sort you out with snorkel trips if that’s more your style. A kitesurfing school is a short walk away, and there’s some decent surfing to be done at the beach too. Deep-sea fishing trips set sail from Sodwana Bay to snag gamefish and marlin (but hopefully not unsuspecting scuba divers).
Prefer to stick to dry land? There’s a great birdwatching trail in Sodwana Bay National Park (15 minutes’ drive), and the folks on site are happy to organise game drives in nearby wildlife parks if you’d like to see some of the local landlubbing beasts.
