  • Pretty park with hilly views and a pond surrounded by forest, meadows
  • A 15-minute drive from Maribor and 25 to the Slovene Hills
  • Finnish sauna, cold plunge pool, squash, tennis and volleyball
Ahhhh… is surely the sound you’ll be making with a Finnish sauna to detox in after a day biking around a scenic setting of forests, meadows and vineyards in the traditional Lower Styria region of Slovenia... and that’s exactly what you shall have at Naturasort Holiday Houses and Camperstop, a spectacular base with hilly views and a pretty pond. Wanting even more activities? This well-equipped park has sportier sorts catered to with a tennis court and outdoor playgrounds (as well as a cold bath to invigorate sluggish systems after those sauna sessions). It has volleyball, a football pitch and indoor squash too and guests can rent mountain and electric bikes to go off on easy explores. After giving the lungs a workout, book a tour and tasting at the Doppler wine house 380 metres above sea level and less than a 10-minute drive away; it's got the stunning Šentilj hills on one side and the Pesnica valley on the other with 360-degree views of both from a terrace bar open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Eats can be had here or you could cook for yourself after a supermarket shop around a five-minute trip away in Pesnica. This venue takes about 20 minutes to bike to if you want to give your bike another workout, but you can also pedal beside the Drava River then up and beyond the Slovene Hills towards Kozjak and through the lush green Kungota area as well. If metropolitan meanders are more what you had in mind, the centre of Maribor, Slovenia’s second biggest city, is a 15-minute drive.

Local attractions

Architecture aficionados can make for Maribor a 15-minute drive away from the park to see an early 16th-century town hall built in Renaissance style and the 15th-century Maribor Castle with a Knights' Hall covered in colourful frescoes cover. If this intro to local history engages your brain, dig up a few more facts about the area at the Regional Museum of Maribor or check out the varied artworks at the Umetnostna Galerija Maribor before visiting the world’s oldest vine in the city’s Lent district. Here in the chilly season? The Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort is a 20-minute drive from Naturasort Holiday Houses and Camperstop; if you’ve got small snowsports fans with you, take a break from the powder to zip around the lakes of Motorikpark Gamlitz over the Austrian border. Or, if staying within Slovenia suits, travel further to the capital city of Ljubljana within an hour and a half to see its famed bridges and café hop along the Ljubljanica River.
