  • Forested mountain site 10 minutes’ drive from Tornik Ski Centre
  • A five-minute drive from Zlatibor and 30 from Tara National Park
  • Guest kitchen, shared barbecue, common room and summerhouse
Fancy skiing hols even in the heights of summer? Make your way to Camp Zlatibor (a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the centre of Zlatibor resort town in Šumadija and Western Serbia), where hitting the slopes doesn’t mean shivering in your boots. The site’s just 10 minutes from Tornik ski centre and its four artificial slopes as well as carousels, tubing and hikes to keep you occupied on those occasions you don't have skis strapped to your feet. Prefer to explore on the (relative) flat? Head into Zlatibor – a 25-minute walk if energy abounds and five minutes’ drive if it doesn’t – to wander shops, try out cafés and restaurants, and bring the kids (and grownups) to Dino Park for go-karting, horse riding, archery, climbing, ziplining, miniature golf and a petting zoo. Retreat to the site when hunger strikes and claim a spot at the barbecue or in the guest kitchen, then head along to the common room or summerhouse to tuck in. Spend evenings unwinding in the peace of the forested site, taking in the views of the mountainous region towards Tara National Park.

Local attractions

Slow paced days should start 10 minutes’ drive from base with a few hours of fishing at Ribničko Lake, before moving things further afield with a trip to ride the narrow-gauge railway in the scenic Mokra Gora (30 minutes away) or to explore the open-air ‘ethno village’ museum that is Sirogojno (35 minutes). If expending a bit more energy appeals, make tracks for Tara National Park half an hour from the site, where there are trails aplenty to follow on foot, bike or horseback. Those in search of a challenge should opt for scaling Mount Tara, a climb so scenic that the old Slavic god Tar called the peak home. Anyone with minimal interest in climbing or reduced mobility might be more inclined to explore some of Tara’s other sights: Solotnik Fort and Rača monastery are both just inside the edge of the park, less than an hour away, and the snap-worthy artificial Zaovine Lake is an hour and 10 minutes from home base. From the highest highs to the lowest lows… Dive beneath the surface 45 minutes away at Potpeće Cave – where people lived way back in Neolithic times – to view impressive stalagmites, stalactites and pillars (and maybe even learn the difference between them).
