- Peaceful family site in the shadow of the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains
- Câmpulung five minutes’ drive; Bran Castle an hour and 25 minutes
- Seasonal pool and sports fields; fishing ponds; mini-market
The dramatic landscapes of the Muntenia region of southern Romania are yours to explore from the comfort of Malinului Camping, a peaceful, welcoming spot a five-minute drive from the city of Câmpulung. Gravel and grass pitches stand at the feet of the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains (a range in the Southern Carpathians). Chances are you’ll find yourself irresistibly lured to those splendid peaks, which shield wooded hiking trails, glacial lakes like Lake Iezer, and panoramic points such as Râușor, with far-reaching views across the lake of the same name and distant forested hills.
Those who don’t fancy scrambling up mountains will have no shortage of things to do on site, whether it’s relaxing in the seasonal swimming pool, angling for trout at the on-site ponds, or embracing team sports on the beach volleyball court or the football field. There’s also a playground, plus (and this is a considerable asset) guests have access to the facilities of the Malinului Resort complex next door, which include another swimming pool and a games room with ping-pong and billiard tables.
Pitches (with electricity and water – both included) are easily accessed via a well-lit gravel path that runs through the site, and amenities include a toilet/shower block (with plenty of hot water). There’s a barbecue area for those who wish to self-cater; the reception area has a mini-market for essentials, and there are plenty of supermarkets and shops in Câmpulung, which also has a good range of dining options.

Local attractions
The village of Nămăești (15 minutes’ drive) is known for its 16th-century monastery, a pretty structure built right out of the rock. On the outskirts of the village, just off the E574, the Mausoleul Mateiaș honours the Romanian soldiers who fought in World War I and has a chapel covered in gilded mosaics.
To the south of Câmpulung, the Muzeul Automobilului Românesc (15 minutes) focuses largely on cars produced in Romania, such as Dacias and AROs, plus military vehicles and motorbikes. Just down the road from the museum, the ‘Jidova’ Roman Castrum is a well-preserved military fort.
Muntenia shares a border with Transylvania, where Bran Castle (an hour and 25 minutes) is a must-visit for visitors to the region – and certainly for fans of Dracula and vampires. Some believe that this atmospheric 14th-century castle perched on a rocky outcrop was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic novel.
