This is such a right pretty part of Portugal… in its natural and unspoiled north, among mountains, and near the Minho River for watery days rafting, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. Equally excellently: this is Albariño wine region too.
All this is around Parque de Campismo e Caravanismo Termas de Melgaço, a peacefully pretty Minho-Lima place on the edge of the Peneda-Gerês National Park (Portugal's one and only) with hiking and cycling trails all around. Melgaço Spa and a public pool are within an easy amble.
The site is well set up for the small, with a kids' club, play area and TV room; there's also a handsomely scenic communal barbecue area, a bar and a games cabin. The amenities block has free hot showers.
